I was under the impression that v9 was going to implement a server/client model for desktop users. I haven't seen or heard being able to do this without going the sql route.

Was I mistaken?

It isn't exactly useful to have a full client/server app that runs on DBF files, since pessimistic record locking rather puts a damper on the feasibility of proper c/s apps...

It does - if you are using active-link tables against a SQL backend.
If you are using forms against .dbf tables, it does not.

If you build a web application against dbf tables, then that in effect is also a client/server model.
