Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Instant Update - Amazing

If you're like me and use the pre-release features - you might want to test out the new Instant Update thing Alpha has out now! All I can say is WOW great job. Preliminary testing of this new update is PERFECT!
Might be nice to tweak the notifications but the functionality is spot on and WORKS better than expected - I expected to have to learn something new here.

This allows for just what it says - your app will update like magic to the next version. This is way better than Hydra ever was, and frankly, the way it should work across the board. Native apps don't update this easily...that's one headache GONE.

    Good Jobs guys!

I just installed the latest pre-release and the instant update is awesome.

But I am not seeing the "Instant update settings" in the PhoneGap builder.

This is from the pre-release notes page...

Run through a build once, then open up the Alpha PhoneGap Build Builder again... is the settings property there? It's displaying in my build.

And... there is lots of control over the messages.

Strange. I've done a build and closed an restarted Alpha. I am not seeing the setting property.

Not sure... the feature may be a bit buggy... as you can currently only work through 9 updates before the updates stop being applied. After the 9th update, the message reports that version 10 is being applied but it is not... and the message is only about version 10 from then on... even though the app is still at version 9.

If you don't see the settings property you should report it.

I'm with Joe - I don't see those settings either. I did reach the limit myself and thought - dangit the feature died. I did a rebuild/generate new and it was back.
I can appreciate that this may not be EVERYTHING we want but it is so close it kinda makes one salivate.
I'm still thinking this is a great BIG improvement, and knowing the AS team - it will be even better when they are done!

                    Re: Instant Update - Amazing

I have yet to get this to operate properly. Some things I'm curious about.

Do I need start new phone gap project from scratch or will this work with a project I've already created as long as I create the baseline (I've created a baseline multiple times but still haven't gotten it to work after doing an update to the UX and saving and then completing the instant update phone gap process)?

I'm using the amazon S3 option for the instant updates, is it possible this is the issue (I see the files in my S3 but was wondering if anyone else had gotten this option to work)?

When it states the version number it doesn't use the version I type in but rather uses the auto incremented number, has anyone gotten their own version number to show up?

After I make changes to my UX do I just save it or do I need to save and publish?

If I use the same UX as the basis for both my PhoneGap built app and my mobile web app, will the instant update also update the mobile web app version if I use the {dialog.object}.instantUpdateRefresh() method in say the onRestoreVariables client side javascript action?

                      Re: Instant Update - Amazing

I used an existing project and NOT the AmazonS3 option. On the update of the web app and the mobile, I would guess NO. An instant update is probably solely related to the PGB and may not send anything to your web servers files - but I do not know for sure.

                        Re: Instant Update - Amazing

I've had the following results using pre-release 4918:

AlphaS3 or PrivateS3, the Version number displayed on update is always 1
AlphaS3 updates are applied to the installed PGB app
                        PrivateS3 updates are not applied

You do not need to build a new project in order to apply InstantUpdate. But... you must (should) delete the app from your device and start with a fresh install... because the fresh install will carry the InstantUpdate process.

After you make changes to your UX... if you are making Ajax Callbacks to the Server... then you must publish. This process has not changed. Your device UX must communicate with the published UX - they must be the same.

InstantUpdate applies only to PGB Apps. Once you change... and publish your UX... your Web App (which is the UX) is that updated, published UX.
