Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How To Insert Record ID Into Working Message?

When you open a UX component via the "Open A UX Component To Edit Current Record In A List Control" my current Working Message is the default "Working..."
I want to change the message to say something like "Loading Record #{PARTID} ... Please Wait"
I'm having trouble getting the record ID into the message. The typical field placeholder syntax doesn't seem to work although it works for Bubble Help.

The setup is UX with a List component inside a TabbedUI.
The list component has an edit icon for each row with an OnClick event to open another UX for editing the selected list row record per above.

Anyone have any ideas how to do this?

Working with this Action is a little tricky when you're using the Option "Use cached UX Compent".

Are you actually seeing the "Working..." message every time you edit a List row? Or just the first time?

On a fresh render, edit a row... you'll see the message. Close that window and edit another row. You won't see the message.

The message can be accessed... and changed... to include anything you want... but if it only shows 1 time... is the changed really needed?

Actually I never noticed that but yes you only see it the first time. The first time the UX is opened it takes about 3 seconds and you see the message. Subsequent opening of the UX is nearly instantaneous and you would not see it.

Is the change really needed ? No, but to me it's the kind of detail that really puts a professional polish to an application, so I would like to be able to do this yes.

So... you either show the id only once... which is the opposite of the professional polish... or you don't use the cache option... which is again...

You can add this to the Action Window Javacsript Evetns, onBeforeShow...

        Code:
        var listId = {dialog.Object}.getValue('LISTPARENT');
        $('A5dlg0.BODY').innerHTML = '<img src="css/A5System/Images/wait.gif">Loading Record # ' + listId + ' ...Please Wait';
You'll need to adjust the .getValue if your List Control is not set to return the key field... or PrimaryKey.

That makes absolutely no sense .. and I wish you would quit making these kind of tart remarks with a lot of your replies.
I can choose not to use a cache option which delays every render for 3 seconds and is opposite of professional, in your opinion.
Or I can choose to to use a cache option which delays the first render for 3 seconds (and show the message once) but would be opposite of professional, in your opinion.

Do I have this right? Or am I misinterpreting your reply?
To clarify, I appreciate the help .. but I tire of responses with the implied negative connotations attached to them.

The default message was to display "Working" on the first delayed render. Do you think if I knew the method to make it work always that I would be asking for help?
Please stop with the making people feel inferior and just help, if that's your intent. We all know how good you are at coding. You could have just said, "hey Stephen why don't you try this, I think it might be a better option".

Thanks, now I will go and try your suggestion.

What are you going on about??? You brought up the "professional polish" stuff. Yikes... you are a sensitive developer... aren't you.

How about this... Hey Stephen... why don't you take a flying leap? How's that?

To paraphrase the Seinfeld soup episode... "No more answers for you".
