Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Background colours

    Try as I may I cannot find a solution to the problem of defining backgroud colours for grids. The grids in my web page need to have a light green background but all I get is the light blue hue even if I change the style from GrBlue.
    Can someone help.

    You might need to clear the cache of your browser to see changes if this is a web application.

      Now I'm lost. My grid is part of a web application but I expect to see any grid colour changes in Live Preview which does not use a browser. Or are you telling me that grid colour changes are only visible when the appication has been published and is in a browser?

        Canico

        Your problem is with GrBlue. It actually uses an image to apply the gradient. So, you first have to remove the image, then you can apply the colour.

            I think that there is more to this than meets the eye. Can you clarify that changing the CSS Style should change grid colors or not? This is where I have tried setting a different colour but to no avail. I see no other grid setting that has a bearing on colours.
            Thanks for your help in this.

              Re: Grid Background colours

              Changing the style from blue to grey will definitely change the look, but I cannot tell if you mean changing the style to another style completely or just editing a certain section like the background. Regardless, as I said changing out the style to another one should definitely change the look. If your editing the style itself go to the background and remove the image completely. Then you should be able to edit the style to change out the colors. Also in the porpeties of the Grid there is a tick box to alternate colors per row.
              I prefer to copy an existing style and create my own, that way I can always revert back to something that AS put together VS some crap I ruined on my own. Anyway, you might feel more comfortable knowing that your style is being used and edited.

              BTW, what version of AS are you using?

                For example I changed the properties of a Grid Component under Layout Options/Style Name from GrBlue to GrRed and started a Live Preview. I saw no colour change whatsoever. Is there another property that I should be changing?

                  Re: Grid Background colours

                  If you open the GrBlue style and look at the grid selectors, you will see something like
                  background: url('images/$box/$size/1x22/$fill/Gradient_Horizontal:%23228%2c232%2c253%3a%23180%2c191%2c249.png.a5image') repeat-x top #b6c1fa;
                  border: 1px solid #9aa9f7;

                  This places an image over the background color that you have selected. If you want all grids to not use the images, you can go to the style and remove them. If you are looking at just one grid, then in the row style, set the background-image: ; (nothing) then background-color: your color choice ;
                  The styles you assign in the property sheet will override the style in the project.

                    Here is the work of a young trainee. You can change the font and row shading at will.

                    With the Alpha style we have built on the new tweaks and you can control it at will with the Sass.
                    GrGray does not lend itself to this method.

                        Pat,
                        thanks for the instructions you sent. I think this is heading me in the right direction although I am still not able to modify any part of the grid in terms of background colours. I created a CSS Style called greenHue which then gave me a CSS directory with the same name under which there is a css file called style. I edited this file and changed the background colour of each entry greenHueGrid... one by one removing where necessary any image definitions. The Live Preview showed no change in any case so I tried once more and published with the same result. I set the grid web component Layout Options/Style name to greenHue.
                        I am missing something but I cannot see what.
                        Thanks again for your help.

                          Thanks Pat, I have now been able to change the grid colours and show correctly. My problem was that the grids that I wanted to colour are all embedded in a UX component so I, obviously, needed to change the CSS settings there.
                          Again thanks for the help.
