The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines

The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
  • Be professional in your conduct
  • Be kind to others
  • Be constructive when giving feedback
  • Be open to new ideas and suggestions
  • Stay on topic


Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
  • Spam.
  • Vulgar language.
  • Quotes from private conversations without permission, including pricing and other sales related discussions.
  • Personal attacks, insults, or subtle put-downs.
  • Harassment, bullying, threatening, mocking, shaming, or deriding anyone.
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
  • Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.
  • Encouraging of others to engage in the above behaviors.


If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
  • Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
  • Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
  • Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
  • Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.


Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.

Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.

Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.

The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.

Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.



Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Status Bar displaying above the UX, instead of being overwritten by the UX

    I have been working on a UX/phonegap app. My control bar previously laid right on top of the status bar. I actually liked this look. I allowed for it in the control bar by just creating a spacer, so that my logo and menu options where down just below the status bar information. It looked good though, the status bar was exactly the same color as my control bar, so it all just blended together.

    I don't know if it was a change in the Alpha software, but on a recent publish, this changed. Now, my status bar is displaying above the control bar, and it is an ugly light gray color, where it used to be the same color as my control bar.

    Any ideas how to change this? I have been reading posts about using the phonegap status bar plugin, and using that to tweak the settings. I have been failing terribly at it, and just can't get the status bar to behave the way I want.

    I also tried this in the client side onPhoneGapReady of the UX:

    StatusBar.overlaysWebView(true);

    But just can't seem to get it back to the way I originally had it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Nobody has any thoughts on this one? Maybe I should try a pre-release? Is it a bug? Or just user error?

      Did you find a solution for this? I've checked all the boxes
      that should be checked and am getting this issue on both
      Android and iOS.

        If I recall, the final solution for me was to add a line to my xml config file that just applied a color to the status bar to match. For me, it was this:

        <preference name="StatusBarBackgroundColor" value="#444444" />

        But I also recall that it was kind of buggy, and I couldn't just simply make changes to the xml. I had to blow up the whole phonegap project and start from scratch, otherwise, it would not take my changes.

          Unfortunate.

          I'll have to put a small visual buffer at the top of the screen until I can find a proper solution.

            I have been looking into these problems after analyzing profile recordings in the Performance panel of Chrome DevTools. I see many, many forced reflows that were making the application lag every time I navigate between panelcards or even put focus on a textbox causing the soft keyboard to pop-up. I finally figured out that these forced reflows do not occur at all on some devices and less on others. However, we are looking into deploying a new tablet for our roaming salesteam and this tablet seems to be the worse.
            This Android device (a Lenovo Moto tablet) has those "soft" bottom buttons (Home button, etc.).

            I realized that this bottom bar is basically another type of status bar and affects the viewport size. As does the soft keyboard on (most?) Android devices and some iOS devices. For instance, I found this from some Apple documentation: "On iOS 10, WKWebView objects match Safari’s native behavior by updating their window.innerHeight property when the keyboard is shown, and do not call resize events."

            I tried building the PhoneGap app with: App Options: Full Screen checked. That was better at first glance but then one panelcard into the app and the bottom bar popped up again. So I looked in the Status Bar plugin again and tried different combinations of configurations and methods with a without the Full Screen option on. I believe I finally found an acceptable combination (for this particular device at least and the current Android version) to get the application from constantly recalculating the size of everything and causing all those reflows. The application is smoother; especially when showing and hiding the soft keyboard.

            I'll need to make adjustments to add fixed, wasted blank space in my headers and footers because at some point or another, the Android top and bottom bars are going to show up and cover those parts of the application. Or I may look for a way to show the top and bottom bars all the time but calculate and force the application into a fixed size that is smaller than the actual screen. However, from my research, I think that might force me to fix the width smaller than I should have to also. At this point, I don't really know what I'll do and I see no easy, global fix.

              The answer is to dump Alpha and code native. And that's what's happening with my app shortly.

                Pretty sure that any hybrid dev environment will not perfectly, and at all times and for all versions of devices and OS's, deal with these sorts of issues.
                Native for business or heavy data driven applications? I don't believe anybody seriously thinks it is a good idea unless you have a large team of developers.
                I just have to hope that Alpha Software understands these problems (I think they do) and reacts quickly enough so that we don't have to, or at least not too often, find the solutions ourselves.
