Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    NavSys OnClick JS to make AjaxCallback in order to Change activeLanguage Session. Any ideas?

    How would you call an xBasic function from the OnClick Javascript in the node settings of the navigation system?

    This can easily be done from withing grids or UX components using javascript callback but how about from a navigation system?

    Basically, the functionality I'd like to implement for logged in users is the ability to easily and quickly change the application language with a simple navigation button click.

    session.__protected__activeLanguage is initially set during login processing where the user's preferred language is retrieved from the database and assigned to the session activeLanguage protected variable.

    The Xbasic function would change the value of the user's preferred language and change language session session.__protected__activeLanguage

    The navigation system language change works since when I log in with a user whose preferred language is French the menu system changes language to french. The same change goes for a user whose preferred language is English.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Re: NavSys OnClick JS to make AjaxCallback in order to Change activeLanguage Session. Any ideas?

    Hmm not sure if I understand but in the navigation you can go to an URL.
    Menu_desktop_language_switch.a5w?language=english
    or
    Menu_desktop_language_switch.a5w?language=french
    etc

    and in the page you handle the actual language switch

    <p><%a5
    'Some browsers (IE7, 8) hide the request.referer. In that case the language is set en the user redirect to
    'his redirect after login page in the new language.
    'If request. referer is available redirection is made to last visited page in new language.

    'We don't combine this into 1 language switch for mobile and desktop menu's because a user can have a desktop
    'page as first entry page at the site and doesn't want to be sent back to that when switching language on
    'his mobile device.
    If variable_exists("language") then
    select
    case language = "default"
    session.__protected__activeLanguage="default"
    case language = "english"
    session.__protected__activeLanguage="english"
    case language = "german"
    session.__protected__activeLanguage="german"

    case language = "russian"
    session.__protected__activeLanguage="russian"
    'available languages already in componentes, but not yet language system.
    ' case language = "french"
    ' session.__protected__activeLanguage="french"
    ' case language = "frisian"
    ' session.__protected__activeLanguage="frisian"

    case else

    msgbox("Alert","Language not available yet.")
    end select

    else
    msgbox("Problem","Language could not be changed")
    end if

    Dim NewLanguage as c
    NewLanguage = session.__protected__activeLanguage

    dim strReferer as c
    strReferer = Context.Request.Referer 'replace Request.Referer
    select

    case strReferer=""

    Dim pUser as P
    session.__protected__activeLanguage = NewLanguage
    a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser,request,session)
    response.redirect(pUser.redirpage)

    case else

    session.__protected__activeLanguage = NewLanguage
    'response.redirect(Request.Referer)
    response.redirect(strReferer)

    end select
    %></p>

      Pieter, thanks for the input.

      That's one way to doing it.

      on the OnClick Javascript on the Node Setting in the navigation system, the help referes to {navsys.object} placeholder that gets a pointer to the navigation system object. But then I tried making an ajax callback to call an xbasic function that changes the session variable, I get an error in the console stating that the function ajaCallback is not a function.
      Code:
      {navsys.object}.ajaxCallback('','','changeLanguage','','',{deviceOfflineFunction: function() {   }});
      I don't think that any ajaxcallback functions exist inside the navsys object.

      Pieter I'm gonna use your method to redirect to a language change processing page run the xbasic i need to run then redirect to context.request.referer if it exists.

      Thanks again
