MultiSelect Search on a Grid Search Part to a Subtable

Does anyone have any clean, working examples of how to have a MultiSelect dropdown search a subtable using the Search Part?


For example - we have a list of Applicants (applicant table) and we have a list of an Applicant's interested positions (applicant_position).
We want to be able to search for Applicants who are interested in multiple positions.

In the search part I want to be able to select 'Position A', 'Position C', 'Position F' and click search to see all applicants who are interested in Position A or C or F.

Is there functionality I am not aware of? We are trying to use the onSearchPartFilterCompute event, but it seems Alpha generates a dynamic search part filter e.g. (interested_position = :interested_position1 OR interested_position = :interested_position2) which becomes difficult to stritran because of its dynamic nature.

Essentially what we are looking for is having the search part generate something similar to:

SELECT * FROM applicant WHERE applicant_id IN (SELECT applicant_id FROM applicant_interested_positions WHERE applicant_interested_positions.applicant_id=applicant.applicant_id and position_id IN ('A','C','F'))

Scott, do you want the search to filter the grid, or just, say, highlight the fields?

If highlight, I think you can create a custom control that looks for a match and highlights the field.

It was more so to filter the grid - we did end up with a solution which was to dynamically build the string that Alpha would build so we could replace it with our own subquery. As long as Alpha doesnt change the way the where clause is generated it seems it will work well. However the forum does not seem to allow me to post the code - it seems to mess it up during display
