Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Phonegap Document Handler

For some reason this document handler plugin started crashing my app in Android. IOS is fine. I had it working great the other day on Android, so I'm really not sure what changed. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for as to a reason for the app crash? I am running debugging with Chrome dev tools on my Android device with USB cable. As soon as the document handler function is called, the app shuts down.

    Re: Phonegap Document Handler

ok, I think I figured out the issue (sort of). I am only able to get the document handler plugin to work with phonegap version cli-7.0.1, builder version 1. If I go to anything higher, the document handler crashes my app (Android). But my issue is that for some reason the splashscreen was not working on this phonegap version for me on Android devices. Which is why I moved up to a higher phoneGap version, the splash screen on Android works fine in the higher build versions, but the document handler fails. Any thoughts on a work around?

This is known issue. Getting the SplashScreens stuff working under 7.0.1-1 is a mess. What version of the Document Handler are you using?

        Re: Phonegap Document Handler

I've started to have a look at this and find that the trouble you're running into is the current standard of bad Alpha support.

The Document Handler plugin you're using is https://github.com/remoorejr/DocumentHandler

This is an Alpha plugin, but has not been updated in 3 years... and so... not updated to work in the most recent versions of PGB. Now... there are semantics involved here... I believe any plugin pushed out by an Alpha team member is an Alpha supported plugin. If stuff changes in PGB then Alpha should update the Plugin... this is not happening. Actually... I can't even see why this plugin exists. It's a direct pull from another plugin... but with no changes... doesn't make sense.

So... old plugin only works under old versions PGB. New method of handling Android SplashScreens only works under newer versions of PGB. Thus... your problem... which is really Alpha's problem... but they won't look after it in a proactive manner. Instead... you just spin your wheels and waste your time trying to get 2 features to work together than can't.

So... here's the question. Why do you want to use the 3 year old, out of date, Alpha Document Handler plugin? What is it that you specifically want to do with PDF files? I believe there is a better solution than waiting for Alpha to do it's job... but I'd like to know, specifically, what you need to do with PDFs.

The goal here is to use a current plugin to handle PDFs so that Android SplashScreens will also work.

Thanks for your feedback. I don't believe there is really anything that ties me to the document handler plugin. All I am doing is opening PDF files. Just need something that is a PDF viewer really. I did start coming to this realization that I could and probably should start looking for a different plugin. If you have any suggestions on a plugin that is more current/up to date, I am all ears. I would gladly switch to something else. Thanks!

            Re: Phonegap Document Handler

You can use https://github.com/sitewaerts/cordov...ocument-viewer to show PDFs. However, this plugin doesn't look after downloading the PDF as well. The old document handler plugin downloaded the PDF AND viewed it.

So... you need to download the PDF first using the Alpha Action PhoneGap - File Download with the Filesystem property set to <Default> and the Target folder property set to something like PDFFiles.

In the Action's On Download Complete (all files) Event you get the full local device filename of your PDF using array[0].localFilename and then you call a Javascript function passing in the name of the PDF. This Javascript function will then call the cordova-plugin-document-viewer plugin.
