Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

I have an Absolute Layout Container which has an image inside it. I have set it up to convert to PDF and call XBasic function when a button is click. I want that pdf emailed to the user. In the XBasic Function how do I code it to email that PDF to the user? I am using Office 365 for email services.

In general, you could use the xbasic email_send function and send the pdf as an attachment.

After you convert the image to a PDF, what are you doing with it?

    Are you storing it somewhere?

For that matter, how are you converting it to a pdf?

Havent really set it up yet. I have an absolute container around an image control. Where do I go from here with it? Do I have to set it up to download it somewhere before it emails? I would prefer that when the user clicks an email button it would convert the image to a pdf and email it to them without the user having to do anything else.

LOL, your original message says that you have the convert part handled already … I was interested in learning how you did it.

Why do you need to convert it to a pdf? Why not just email the image as is?

Note Alpha has many functions for managing pdfs, but I don't know if you can easily convert an image to a pdf using Alpha functions. Search for PDF in the Alpha help.

Actually it is fine if I just email the image. What do I do create an onclick javascript event in the button to do the email? How do I attach the image that is showing to the email?

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

Presumably, if you are displaying the image, you know where it is located so you should be able to attach it to an email either using the send_email function with an xbasic function or by using action script to send the email directly from the button.

In the action javascript do I just put the image control name in the attachment section? For example if the image control is called document then in the attachement section just put [document]?

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

                That depends...

What value is in the image control? Is it the full filename, a partial filename or just the image data?

Also, is the image on your server or are you grabbing it from somewhere else.

The email is being sent from the server, so you need to send the full filename from the server's perspective for it to make a proper attachment.

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

A url points to an image in Amazon S3 for the image control. It is a full url. It is stored on Amazon S3. So how do I configure the action java script Email to pull the image from S3 to attach it to the email?

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

Instead of attaching it to the email, embed it in the email. It will be less likely to get blocked as spam anyway if it doesn't actually have an attachment.

Create the proper html to show the image and send that as the body of the email.

What do you put the url in the body? The image will change based on what is clicked on in a list control so how would you have a url that changes based on what is clicked on?

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

I assume you are going to grab the url of the current image being displayed.

It won't change once you send it from the email.

                        Am I missing something?

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

So you are saying just have a field that holds the current url that is set when a user clicks on an item from a list control? If so, since there would be multiple users using the app how do you bring the current url into the body of the email depending on what user clicks on what item in the list control? Would you do something like an Ajax Callback to an XBasic function that does an arg.set for the url? If so, how do you set up the email body to pull that argument into it? Hope this makes sense! Thanks for your help!

Re: Absolute Layout Container And Send Email

You might not need a field, you should be able to read the URL data directly from the list control, although there are some situations where that may not be available, if so, then set a field as you suggest.

For each browser session there is only one user. The server won't get confused.

There are several ways to send emails. The simplest way that might work in your case is that you can setup an email directly from a button. Add a button to the ux, and select the send email javascript action.

Otherwise, you can setup an xbasic function and use the send_email function to do that. The xbasic function (with comments) will show all the options you need to grab data from the UX.

I think I would need to know more about your actual setup to help further in this. You keep adding parts to the equation with each post - a full description of what you are actually doing might be useful at this point.
