Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Map Markers Detail View

    I have map markers placed on a map based on longitude, latitude fields. I want when a user clicks on a marker to pull up a detail panel card that holds detail information from a list control. Right now, if the user doesnt click on the particular item associated with the marker in the list control first when they click on the marker it is blank. How do I set when the user clicks on a marker it will pull the information from the list control without the user having to click on the associated item in the list control first? I tried in the marker on click event to set values the same as I am doing in the list control on click event but that isnt working.

    Not sure what you mean exactly, but if the list has a detail view in a panel card you should be able to create a button and set the on click event to go to the panel card showing the detail view.

      Re: Map Markers Detail View

      When a user clicks on a map marker I have a panel card that is the same panel card that opens up when a user clicks on an item in a list control, it shows information from the list control. I want when a user clicks on the map marker to show the same information in that panel card. When a user clicks the map marker first (before clicking on the list control item) the panel card shows no information (the fields are blank). However, if the user clicks on the item in the list control first and then clicks the map marker the panel card shows the information. How do I set it so when a user clicks the map marker first (before list control item) it will show the information? Is it through setting values or something? Does this makes sense?

        do you have allow null selection checked in the list control? If it is not the panel card should show the details of the first item in the list.

          It was checked but I unchecked it and it didnt make a difference. Am I suppose to be doing something with this below as it saids in the onclick event of google maps:

          var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('name of list');
          lObj.setValue(markerData.__rowNumber,false);

          Is this what I use to set the information from the list control based on what pin the user clicks? If so, how do I do that?

            Re: Map Markers Detail View

            Maybe you mean the detail view of the map marker - first, has detail must be set as <true> then in the marker detail section you just pick the fields you want to show. It also matters if you're using a data series or a list control as to how you would display that information in the markers detail view. A feature I find lacking in a really fundamental way - Alpha does not make it easy to understand how to use the templating in each case. For instance try putting an image in a marker detail view using a list control as a source to draw multiple markers. All I can figure out is to use A5.u.icon.html(data[rowNumber].image) which will display the image but to size it or place it throws errors using html markup - it appears this is because it returns JSON
            So in the end it seems like if you really want to have control you'll have to learn not just xbasic but what needs to be returned as well. Unless I am missing something the documentation on how to define the marker detail is really lacking.
            If it were as good as the list control layout - that would be a big improvment.

              Here is an example to maybe help someone else out. This is some example code for a map marker detail using a List control NOT a data series.

              Code:
              A5.u.icon.html(data[rowNumber].image,"style=width:240px")+ '<br>' + data[rowNumber].img_description

                I have a list control that when you click on an item it has an option to click on a map. In the map I have it where it displays multiple markers based how many items were in the list. Here is the problem, when you click one item in the list control and then click on map, it doesnt matter which marker you click on, that marker pulls the same information that comes from the original item that was clicked on in the list control. I want it when a marker is clicked on, the marker pulls the information that marker pertains to in the list control and not just pull up them same information as other markers do. How would I do that in the on-click event that pulls up the map?

                  Re: Map Markers Detail View

                  I am not quite sure exactly how your calling the markers from your post. Typically you would have a map control and a button. When you click the button it loads the markers from the list control but sounds like your adding multiple markers from the row instead of the list.

                    Yes... this is what you're supposed to use... but... as is often the case with Alpha... the code is wrong. Maybe it what right in Feb of 2017... I don't know. I only know that what the notes say... and that the code is wrong for the notes. Allow Null Selection doesn't really have anything to do with this issue.

                    I also have to point out that I had to drop down to Build 5028 to have a look at this process... because any official build after that the Action Javascript Map Actions for any the Javascript events produce an error when you attempt to open the event. I'm shaking my head... but there you go... Alpha again.

                    Anyway... in the onClick event of the Map Actions use this code. It's a minor change, but significant. The Alpha suggested code is using the .setValue parameter honorChangeEvent - setting it to false... which means (pretty much) don't do anything. With honorChangeEvent set to true, onChange fires for the List... and it's associated detail view is displayed.

                    Code:
                    var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('list1')
                    lObj.setValue(markerData.__rowNumber,true);

                      I reported the onclick error in another thread and was told it was fixed. My guess is that its fixed in the recent prerelease but I havnt tested it to know as i have been out of town.

                        The Map Action Javascript Events error has been fixed as of pre-release 5187... out last Friday, July 6.

                        Also, the wrong sample code has been removed.

                            I am testing the pre-release this morning, so far so good! Looks like it's been properly sorted out. Also, I was shown another way to show the images in the markers onclick detail view for the javascript template so I thoght I would share it which also works in a similar fashion as teh previous code I shared. I am sharing it as an example to others. Like I said previously I think the example code is a bit lacking and hope it will help others when trying to display an image from a list control rather than a data series.
                            Code:
                            'This is the detail message' + '<br>' + data[rowNumber].detail + '<br>' + '<img style="width: 200px;" src="'+data[rowNumber].image + '"/>'
