Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    currentGridFilter()

    I know a bunch has been discussed about currentGridFilter(), but I cannot find a way to use that filter in an a5w page.

    To explain, I have a grid and the user uses search features to narrow the records displayed. I know how to use currentGridFilter() so that just those records appear in a report. But I also want to do some xbasic processing on just those selected records, so I need a way to capture the records that the user selected so I can process those records later in an a5w page for example.

    Is there a way to do this?

    When you say "later" what does that mean? Like from a button click within the grid?

      Later could mean in a button within the grid, OR it could mean I would like to use it in an a5w page and then use some xbasic with it.

        Re: currentGridFilter()

        Let me ad some detail as to what I am trying to accomplish.

        I run a report, and then I want to update the table that the report was based on and put some appropriate values in to certain fields of every record. So my approach wS to run the report and then use Xbasic in an a5w page to process the SAME records by using the same filter. SO I need currentgridfilter() for that purpose.

        Another approach would be to put some Xbasic code in the events of the report to accomplish the above - I have not done that before so I would need some help in this. Hut I like the approach above better because I want to give the user the choice of whether to update the recorsd or not.

          Re: currentGridFilter()

          Gary,

          I think the easiest approach would be to use action scripting to: 1. run the report and then 2. Do an ajax callback. You enter the name of the xbasic function in the callback and then create it. The "P" object exposes the current grid filter (i.e. e._gridCurrentFilter) which then can be used to query records. The xbasic function would look something like below

          function test as c (e as p)

          query.filter = e._gridCurrentFilter
          query.order = ""
          dim t as p = table.open("myGridTable")
          dim qry as p
          qry = t.query_create("", query.filter, query.order)
          nrecs = qry.records_get()
          IF (nrecs = 0) then
          qry.drop()
          ui_msg_box("Null Query","There are no records in the Query" ,UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL)
          query.order = ""
          query.filter = ""
          END
          end if
          '=======================================================
          'Do something with the records returned by the query
          ' Then return javascipt if desired
          '======================================================
          'Return a Javascript command
          test = "alert('Records processed')"

          end function

              Hi Gary,

              I know it's been a while since you were going to look at John's solution, but just in case you haven't,
              or if someone else has a need for this functionality, I think I accomplish what you're wanting to do
              using the onSQLSelectQuery serverSide event.

              I capture the e.sql code and the e.arguments.xml into state variables. I am then able to re-run the query to get the data I need for further processing.

                Gregg, that is great!

                I can see many uses for this. Thanks!
