I have changed jobs and now back in the database game and was trying to demo Alpha Anywhere to the new employer. He is using Oracle 12r2 which I have no experience with. So, of course, I cannot get to connect. Have no problems with Postgres or MySQL.
I have gotten Toad for Oracle and DBeaver to connect to the Oracle server, so am not totally inept and getting some things working. Unfortunately, Alpha seems to not ask for some of the things the other 2 programs wanted to know. The other two ask for role which is SYSDBA. Vice versa, Alpha is asking for things the others do not such as service, procedural language, spatial implementation, and SQL syntax handler.
I am using standard port 1521 and am able to ping the dns server name as well as get ip address when doing a lookup.
I have copied the Alpha Oracle dll files to \program files (x86)\a5v12 and tried connecting without luck. I then searched forum where another thread said to also copy dll's to \windows\system32 which I did with no change.
The error I am getting when using the DNS name in Server field is - TNS: connect timeout occurred
The error I am getting when using the IP address in Server field is - ORA-12514 TNS: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect description
All the above is running on Windows 10 64bit
I have it running in a Parallels Virtual Machine and have tried both shared and separate IP addresses.
I have made a clean VM without Toad or DBeaver to make sure I don't have any residual 64 bit Oracle drivers and therefore only have Oracle drivers from Alpha. No drivers from Oracle have been installed.
Thanks for the help.
