Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Summary of all defined event handlers

In the latest release there is a new feature that shows all of the events that have code in them and the code. for all of the controls, lists, button, textboxes, etc. It is the third or forth item in the release notes. You can further clean up the text that alpha produces in notepad++ by changing the \n's to newlines and the /t's to horizontal tabs.
I have wanted a way to look at all of the code in the UX without opening every event separately for a long time.

      From the release notes.
UX Component - Summary of all defined event handlers - A new item on the Menu dropdown in the UX builder allows you to get a summary of all of the events that have been defined in the UX. This can be very helpful in a large UX with many controls because it allows you to quickly get a comprehensive view of all of the event handlers that have been defined.

To display the summary, click the Menu button and then select the Show summary of all Javascript code for event handlers menu item.

Agreed! It seems like there have been issues in the past where you uncheck an option but the code is still there in some way that affects the UX negatively. I can't really give an example but it seems like there was some issue I had more than once where I got an error in chrome due to some remnant where I just had to delete the button and create a new one...Overall this seems like a great idea.

I know exactly what you mean, but I don't think this new feature will help with that. The new feature just shows JavaScript code that you have written, I think. (Tried testing it (Build 5221) on one of my more complex ux's and it fails with "property not found". I will submit the UX to alpha.)

Re: Summary of all defined event handlers

I've seen features like this in other environments. It's nice to know where stuff is... it would also be nice to click a link in that list and be taken to that event. It would also be nice to see this expanded to XBasic.

I am having the same problem with one of my uxes. It is not related to size however. It works OK on larger files. Please let me know if you come up with something.

Re: Summary of all defined event handlers

The script error happens if there are no events in the newer "Abstract" events. If you move at least one event from a legacy event up to an "abstracted" event then the report works. Although, I wonder if the report is printing the legacy events.

Anyway, the issue was fixed immediately after I reported it. I would expect the next pre-release build after 7/30/2018 will have the fix.

                      Frank,
Notice the properties section for controls in the UX builder has, among other categories, the following two sections:
                      • JavaScript - (Touch, Mouse, Pointer Events)
                      • JavaScript

The first section listed contains the "Abstracted" events that I mentioned. The second section is for "Legacy" events.
