Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How To Delete Selected Record From List?

    I have a UX component with six separate lists on it. Each list is populated by a slightly different SQL query filter but from the same table.
    In each list row I have a delete icon and when the user clicks on the icon I want the record deleted from the database and removed from the list.
    The UX looks like attached image

    Currently I have the OnClick event on the delete icon of each list setup like so:

    {dialog.object}.deleteRecord();
    {dialog.object}.runAction('Delete CTB');
    The deleteRecord(); code deletes the record of the first primary key in the database (no matter which row is clicked), so I think I need to somehow return the primary key of the list row that is clicked first then delete that record.
    I'm just not sure how to go about this?

    The second part of the code simply runs an action to remove the selected row from the list, and this part works okay. I could replace this with {dialog.object}._listRemoveSelectedRows('LISTNAME');

    Anyone know how I might be able to do this?

    Well, I've got the primary key value. I didn't realize you have to add a detail view for the list (even though I'm not using it) so that I can populate the ID field of the list row that is clicked.

    Now I just have to figure out how to delete the specific record based on the primary key.

      Interesting I just discovered that myself yesterday. I added the id field as a hidden text box and mapped it in the detail view properties and it works flawlessly.

        Okay, figured this out .. much simpler than I thought. Detail View is not required.
        I simply added a DELETE RECORD action javascript to the delete icon then set the 'Get primary key of record to delete from' to 'ListControl'

        Delete From List Action.jpg

        Seems to work fine now.

          I tried that first but it would not delete the record for me. It asked if it was OK to delete I click yes and nothing.

            Re: How To Delete Selected Record From List?

            Frank, that's odd.
            The delete action is working for me but I have noticed while it does delete the record from the database, it does not automatically remove the row from the list even though the 'List Controls To Refresh' property is selected.

            I tried adding javascript after the delete action to remove the row from the list: {dialog.object}._listRemoveSelectedRows('List');
            But this doesn't work. In fact it seems to cause the delete action not to work.
            I have a Refresh button on the UX which does update and remove the list row.

            I may resort back to the hidden ID field if I can't work around this.
            Would you mind showing the code you use to delete the record once you have the primary key? Thanks.

              Re: How To Delete Selected Record From List?

              As I said before I have a hidden text control mapped to the id field of the list table in the detail view. I use the wizard that is available while in the detail view tab to create the custom buttons that I want to use like Delete and Refresh.
              The code in the delete button created by the wizard is
              Code:
              var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LST_ITEMS');
              lObj.deleteRow();

                Is that actually deleting the record from the database or simply removing the row from the list?

                  I use an Ajax Callback to do the delete and then in the "After callback complete Javascript" I click on the refresh button.

                    Yes I have the synchronization policy set to 'Perform client to server synchronization whenever user save edits to a row in a list' This is an always connected ux. It removes the row in the list and deletes record in the table.

                      Thanks Lee, I have it working currently by using the Action Javascript delete, then manually clicking a Refresh button on the UX.
                      I was kind of hoping to perform both tasks in one step without the need for the refresh button click.

                        Thanks Frank, I completely overlooked the synchronization policy. Thanks for pointing that out.
                        It says you can perform this at any time yourself with: {dialog.object}.refreshListData(listVariableName,{mode: 'incremental'});
                        I'm going to play around with this a bit and see if I can make it work using my icons on the list rather that the custom buttons. If I can't get it to work that way, then I will do it using your method.

                        Thanks guys for your input and suggestions.
