Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

URL for page not needing the a5w

I know this has been asked a bit in the past but haven't seen anything that I can get to work.

I am using Alpha WAS, not IIS.

I really really don't want a bunch of URLs out in the world for my site that require the a5w extension.

It would be so nice if I can use www.domain.com/faq for my faq page instead of www.domain.com/faq.a5w

I would love to also have some way to use more user friendly urls like www.domain.com/listing/4 to show listing #4 for example.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Add this to the AA Server
    .a5w,.htm

Pete, as I reread my title I probably didn't use the best choice of words.

I have a faq.a5w page which is an alpha a5 page. I would like to not have to use the a5w extension on the url.

      Sorry for the confusion.

The do as I said ..
        1. Add this to the AA Server - .a5w,.html in the page extension section.
2 rename your faq.a5w to faq.html (then rebublish it)
then it will work - same goes for any .a5w page you can call them all *.html - makes no difference.

Sorry Pete. I didn't understand fully what you were trying to say.
I will try that out today.
          Thanks

Re: URL for page not needing the a5w

To accomplish friendly urls you need to have server (or proxy) that supports some sort of rewrite engine. Classic Alpha server do not have this feature. But you can use Alpha Classic servers poor mans friendly urls. When you for example have url https://mydomain.com/subfolder then Alpha Classic will try to find in that subfolder an index page. If one is available Alpha Classic server will serve page so user will have some kind of friendly url experience. But this scenario is difficult because Alphas philosophy is put all stuff in one folder. Also how Alpha handles redirection will break this concept.

              Pete,
If I change the faq.a5w page, indeed if someone enters www.domaincom/faq.html, the page will come up. Is it possible to have it work with the url as www.domain.com/faq

What you would have to do is create a subfolder called faq. Then, in that subfolder, put a file called index.html (or index.a5w).

Alpha should then run that index file in the faq directory.

                As an example, go here:

                https://easytrack.us/reservations/faq

As an aside to the above: Be careful as you may have to modify the security settings on the folder to allow people to view anything inside it! Subfolders are mostly set to deny by default.

Yes - add faq.html to the default pages in the server, make a subfolder in your project, save the faq.html in the folder, ensure the security is set to allowed, publish the folder.
