Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List Detail Submit Follow

    Have a list sorted on status.
    Detail is in a modal popup.
    Submit closes the popup.

    I want the selected row to be the new record just submitted.

    Is there a built in method for this, or do I have to hand-code it?

    I think it will work as expected if there is a refresh on the list data (callback) and of course forcing a row selection (allow NULL selection - unchecked).

            Re: List Detail Submit Follow

            In my tests with the Detail View in a Popup Modal Window, and Window closed code running in the Sync button, a New Record is the Active Row in a List. It doesn't matter whether Allow NULL selection is on or not.

            You've not detailed how you are sorting the List, although that doesn't matter to the selected new row. If sorting in the SQL statement your new record will be added to the end of the List and will stay there until a List Data Refresh... but it will be the List selected row.

            If you want your new record in the correct sort position then use the List Property Client-side Filter/Order.

            Either way, what I'm seeing is the New Record is the selected List Row.

            There are about 1.2 million List property combinations. Any other List properties set? Events? SQL database?

              To clarify. It's not a modal popup but rather a modal container window popup.

              This is my code to save and close:
              Code:
              var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('WO_ITEMS');
              lObj.updateListFromUXControls();
              {dialog.object}.hideContainerWindow('CONTAINER_1');
              {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('WO_ITEMS',{rows: 'allRows'});
              This is the order clause from the SQL Select:
              Code:
              ORDER BY stat_order, Priority_Order, Item_Description

                Understood... my test is using a Window Container with a Window Type of Modal-Popup.

                Confirm your List Control property setting for "Allow NULL selection".

                Also, how and when are you invoking the "new record" process. What is your code?

                Using your code in a button, my new record is showing as the last row in the List Control... and is selected.

                  Re: List Detail Submit Follow

                  Allow null is unselected (But previously it was selected - no change in behavior).

                  New record code:
                  Code:
                  {dialog.object}.showContainerWindow(this,'CONTAINER_1');

                  var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('WO_ITEMS');
                  listObj.newDetailViewRecord();

                  {dialog.Object}.setValueFrom('WO_Id_1','WO_Id');

                    Re: List Detail Submit Follow

                    I'm not seeing any issues with this. The List Control displays. Clicking a "new" button runs your code, the Window Container opens to a new record.

                    Fill in the record and click save. Your save code runs which saves the record, syncs the row, and closes the Window Container.

                    The List Control is now showing the new record, at the bottom of the List, and it is selected.

                    If you could create a simple UX showing your issue, along with a sample SQL table, I'll have a look. There must be something else going on that is interfering with the process.

                      Re: List Detail Submit Follow

                      Try this for your save/submit button.
                      Code:
                      setTimeout(function(){
                      var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('WO_ITEMS');
                      if(lObj.selection[0] != 'undefined') {
                      	lObj._selectedRow = lObj.selection[0];
                      }
                      lObj.updateListFromUXControls();},1000);
                      Then put your code to close the container, or just close it manually for testing to see if the submitted row is then selected as you want. As David said, I get the same behavior as he does so this might not make a difference because there must be somethign else going on in the way the list is rendered that is forcing another selection although you did not say exactly what is selected at the time, or the list isn't refreshing to show the new record...which is why I suggested a list refresh after submit with allow NULL unticked.
