Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Trying to set panel active on events

    So i setup a login function on my UX and added a label to show that the login was successful (requires a group membership to show) but it doesn't navigate to the panel (nothing happens)

    then added these events:
    Server
    onDialogInitialize (user role from its registering function)
    IF e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn=.T. then
    e.javascript = "{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('MAINPANEL');"
    end if
    IF session.loggedin=.T. then
    e.javascript = "{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('MAINPANEL');"
    end if

    e.control.UserRoles = a5ws_get_guid_from_group("New User")

    Validate and after validate verify and save web security values

    onLogin
    IF e.loginSucceeded = .T. then
    DIM session.User as C = e.username;
    DIM session.loggedin as L = .T.
    e.javascript = "{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('MAINPANEL');"
    end if

    Client Side
    Afterlogin
    {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('MAINPANEL');

    any help wold be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Trying to set panel active on events

    e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn is not available in onDialogInitialize. Referencing it, without checking it first, is causing a server error.

    You're best off checking for variables where they may not exist using... if variable_exists("e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn") then ...

    Your session.loggedin also may not yet exist, at that point, in that event.

    Are you doing any Action Scripting in onDialogInitialize? If so, e.javascript may already be set by Action Scripting and so you have to append your javascript to e.javascript.

    Use e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn in the Server-side onLogin event.

    Is this a mobile app? If so, don't use session variables... as they are unreliable. Mobile or Web... I only use session variables if I'm forced to.

    To test, remove all that code from onDialogInitialize. Comment out the code in the Server-side event onLogin. Just leave your Client-side Event onLogin code in place. After you log in, you should be taken to your PanelCard.

    What version/build of Alpha are you using?

      Re: Trying to set panel active on events

      would e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn work onDialogInitialize if the user had refreshed the window? (it has started working tho im not sure what caused it to start working) what i am trying to do is have it go to the correct panel is the user is logged in and when they log in. just in case i changed it to

      if variable_exists("e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn") then
      IF e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn = .t. then
      e.javascript="{dialog.object}.panelSetActive('MAINPANEL');"
      end if
      end if

      Not sure if i'm making things worse. Using 4.5.4.0 B5028 (my license is expired and i'm hoping this project will give me the opportunity to renew)

      If session variables are not recommended, what other options do i have for logged in checks? would something like "a5ws_getcurrentuser()<>""" work?

      Not using any action scripting, thank you for the information.

      As i am using e.username to get the username no a field, would the variable be usable directly rather than using it to make a session variable, got the feeling it wouldn't work directly as its a component inside of the initial index component (had to set them together as it does not allow me to log out the user using the logout function if its not the same control that they used to log in)

        Re: Trying to set panel active on events

        e.flagUserWasAlreadyLoggedIn does not exist in onDialogInitialize at any time.

        On a page refresh, onLogin fires before onDialogInitialize. The UX isn't actually initialized when the onLogin event is firing... so setting an active panel won't work using onLogin.

        If you simply want to set an active panel after a login then you only need code in the Client-side event afterLogin. This will work on an initial login and a page refresh.

          Re: Trying to set panel active on events

          Thank you, i got the client side event to work. Is there something that would cause the client side events not to work?

          I started adding the other events when the client side one wasn't working. Like right now the on logout page refresh is not working, it logged out the user but it doesn't refresh the page.

          Also anything you could recommend to get the page to refresh on logout since the UX property does not seem to be working? (not sure if its caused by a bug that was fixed on an update after my licence expired :()

            Re: Trying to set panel active on events

            A server-side error could stop all client-side processing. Or a Javascript error could stop processing.

            The UX Property "Logout does full page reload" does work in 5028. You could also just set the Active PanelCard to the Login PanelCard using the Client-side afterLogout event.

              Re: Trying to set panel active on events

              Got it, is there a way to use an if statement on the events on controls or buttons?

              Like if a switch is changed, have it alter other fields base on if it was switched on or off?

                Re: Trying to set panel active on events

                You can do pretty much anything at all. Use the field's onChange event or onBlur or whatever.
