Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    list control selecteddata working with static date but not sql

    That's static data, sorry typo.So after much toil trying to capture and utilize the list data in selected rows I found that I can get this to work in a few different ways when the list is based on static data. Once I switch to basing the list on a backend sql table the value
    returned from the selection is empty.

    I tried returning a field, and a primary key from the list, neither works. Am I missing a setting in the list? The list renders fine, rows are selected, but the returned values aren't there. However in this case the commas are returned depending on the number of rows that are selected so the correct number of placeholders are there but not the value.
    var lObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('list1'); //targeting list control
    var emailArray = [];

    for(i=0;i<lObj.selectionData.length;i++){
    emailArray.push(lObj.selectionData[i].somecontrol);
    }

    var emailStr = emailArray.join(',');
    {dialog.object}.setValue('Value',emailStr);
    Put Dave K's code from another post, on a button and returned the value to a label control. Again all works well with a static list but not with a table from a database. I was battling the javascript
    when it seems the problem is with the list.
    This started with this how to post: https://forum.alphasoftware.com/show...s-are-selected
    Thanks,
    Bob

        Here's a sample:
        var PlayListArray = [];
        var lObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('SPlay'); //targeting list control

        for(i=0;i<lObj.selectionData.length;i++){
        PlayListArray.push(lObj.selectionData[i].Plays);
        }

        var vPlays = PlayListArray.join(',\n');
        vPlays = vPlays + '\n' +'_______________________';
        vPlays = vPlays + '\n' + 'Total Plays: ' + lObj.selectionData.length;
        {dialog.object}.setValue('ListOfChoices',vPlays);

          Hey Lee,
          Thanks for the help. Used your example but still getting empty values separated by Alpha generated commas.
          Are you able to make this work using a sql table as your data source for the list control?
          Thanks,
          Bob

            Simplified this, looks like a bug to me? I am using an older version 3670? What am I missing?

              It works with static data static.swf
              I also tried Lee's example that also works with static data, but not an sql table.

                Re: list control selecteddata working with static date but not sql

                It's only a bug in your code. Remember that you're dealing with client-side controls and client-side data... which means that case matters.

                In your Static example you are working with "Pay_Id" in your List. Your code is referencing "Pay_Id".

                You switch to SQL and your SQL Select statement is... Select PAY_Id... uppercase "PAY". However, your code is still referencing "Pay_Id" as in lObj.selectionData[1].Pay_Id.

                There is no Pay_Id, but there is a PAY_Id.

                If you debug through your Javascript code and have a look at lObj.selectionData you'll see what the case of each field is.

                You can either change your code to PAY_Id or change your SQL Select statement to Pay_Id.

                Also, you should stop using swf files. It's ancient, dangerous, and barely supported. IE supports it only because it's so old. All current browsers have removed support for swf.
