Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    pdf_fillInFields_merge Function -- Anyone using this??

    This is for a web app. Tried 5159-5132 and 5221-5152.

    Followed Alpha's documentation but get an error...

    Ashampoo_Snap_Wednesday, October 24, 2018_15h10m23s_001_.png

    Per the documentation I've already installed the third party library. Still doesn't work.

    Here is my test case component and sample fillable PDF if someone would like to take a look.

    PDF_Test_Case.zip

    The pdf_fillInFields_get function doesn't work either.

    Sent a bug report to Alpha. Selwyn tested and turns out the problem was behind the keyboard (me)

    I reinstalled the third party app and this time left the default settings as is. Method works fine now.

      Mike,
      I downloaded your sample, put it in a folder in the root called temp and tried the following script in the interactive window:
      dim fn as c
      dim fnIn as c
      dim fnOut as c

      fnIn = "C:\temp\Sample_Rental_Agreement.pdf"
      fnOut = "C:\temp\Sample_Rental_Agreement_Complete.pdf"
      dim jsonData as c
      jsonData = <<%txt1%

      [
      {
      "title": "Store",
      "fieldType": "Text",
      "fieldFlags": "0",
      "fieldValue": "My Store"
      },
      {
      "title": "Address",
      "fieldType": "Text",
      "fieldFlags": "0",
      "fieldValue": "123 Main St."
      },
      {
      "title": "Name",
      "fieldType": "Text",
      "fieldFlags": "0",
      "fieldValue": "Jay Talbott"
      },
      {
      "title": "Address_2",
      "fieldType": "Text",
      "fieldFlags": "0",
      "fieldValue": "Lexington, KY"
      }
      ]

      %txt1%

      ?pdf_fillinFields_merge(fnIn,fnOut,jsonData)
      When I execute the last statement, the file gets created, but there is nothing in the fill-in fields.
      Any thoughts?

      Thanks,

      Jay

        Jay,

        Get rid of you open/closed bracket and try again. When I add brackets to my sample component I get the same result: No fill in. Once I remove those brackets my sample PDF fills in.

          That all worked fine. Thank you very much.
          Now for a practical application.
          I want to fill out this form

          https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f941.pdf

          This issue is the Quarter fields on the right (Report for this Quarter of 2020). When doing a pdf_fillinfields_get() these are the fields related to the Quarter fields on the right:

          {
          "title": "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].ReportForQuarter[0].c1_1[0]",
          "fieldType": "Button",
          "fieldFlags": "1",
          "fieldValue": ""
          },
          {
          "title": "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].ReportForQuarter[0].c1_1[1]",
          "fieldType": "Button",
          "fieldFlags": "0",
          "fieldValue": ""
          },
          {
          "title": "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].ReportForQuarter[0].c1_1[2]",
          "fieldType": "Button",
          "fieldFlags": "0",
          "fieldValue": ""
          },
          {
          "title": "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].ReportForQuarter[0].c1_1[3]",
          "fieldType": "Button",
          "fieldFlags": "0",
          "fieldValue": ""
          },
          It looks like I have to add the value in fieldFlags for the appropriate Quarter, but I cannot get the JSON figured out.

          The Social Security number fields look like this:

          jsonData = <<%str%
          {
          "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].EntityArea[0].f1_1[0]": "12",
          "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].EntityArea[0].f1_2[0]": "3456789"
          }
          %str%
          but adding this for the Quarter results in an error:

          "topmostSubform[0].Page1[0].Header[0].ReportForQuarter[0].c1_1[1]", "fieldFlags": "1", (this should fill in the 2nd Quarter, it's zero based)
          Trying the 1 with or without the "" marks fails.

          Any thoughts?

          Thanks,

            I was able to get the first box check oddly enough. But I struck out on the others. Not sure why. I tried different combination of 1's and 0's and even blanks but only managed the first checkbox.

              HA! I got it on a hunch. Not zero based. It's 1, 2, 3, 4
