Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Stripe Genie in XBasic

Hi, hopefully someone can help as I feel I am missing something fundamental here.

I'm trying to use the Stripe Genie in XBasic (I was able to implement some Stripe functionality in node, but the XBasic stuff looks way more complete), but it seems like the Stripe DLL (?) is missing.

For instance, first couple lines of a code sample:

    dim secretTestKey as c = "sk_test_BQokikJOvBiI2HlWgH4olfQ2"

Stripe::StripeConfiguration is not found when I try to call it in the Interactive window. Do I need to load something before I can use this, and if so, what?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Re: Stripe Genie in XBasic

There are 2 files missing from the installs up until around Sept 7, 2018. I thought Alpha would have rebuilt the last official install or at least posted a note.

You'll need to contact Alpha to get those files and instructions for installing: and Newtonsoft.json.dll.

Be aware that the Stripe genie is using a .Net implementation of Stripe... with the Stripe.NET SDK dated 2018-02-06. The most recent version of the REST Stripe Version is 2018-09-24. This may not make any difference with what you're using in Stripe, but it's something you should be aware of. The current version of the .NET SDK is also 2018-09-24.

The Stripe Genie is extensive but I found I couldn't use it without putting in a lot of work deciphering the messages coming out of it... specifically any error messages Stripe might be returning... so I gave up trying to use it. You have some control over the REST version used whereas you must depend on Alpha for .NET.

Thanks David, I knew I wasn't going crazy and that something was missing!

What do you mean by this? Do you recommend using node?

        Re: Stripe Genie in XBasic

No... Node.js is far worse. It's difficult to debug and Alpha implemented 2 levels with Node.js... Global and Project. The problem is that some Stripe Node.js calls works under one level but fail under the other. You must use both to implement a full Stripe solution.

Stripe provides cURL commands. Use those and the XBasic cURL genie to create the XBasic to make REST calls to the Stripe API.

Thanks, I think. :) Haven't used cURL in Alpha, guess its time to learn something new.

It works well. Just make sure you remove any line breaks ("") in the cURL command (commonly found). One long cURL command line is what you want to give to the genie. Otherwise you get back garbage.
