Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Programatically insert record into repeating section

    I need to insert a new record into a repeating section. The problem I'm running into is that I cannot figure out how to get the highest row number in the section. If I get that then I could just add 1 and I'm there. Another solution would be to simply insert the record using a SQL INSERT and not using the repeating section at all, but again I am lost as to how this can be done.

    Why do I need this you ask? When the user clicks on the Save (submit) button I need to write some data to a Audit table with the Date, Time, Username and a System generated comment as to what UX they were using.The Audit table does not need to be linked to the UX.

    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lou,
    I think this is what you specifically asked for... https://documentation.alphasoftware....t%20Method.xml ,

    and this might give you some other options : https://www.viddler.com/embed/7ee7d6...edId=undefined .

    I do a lot of the logging you're talking about, with the exception that I haven't been worried about what component the user did it from, unless MySQL threw an error.

      Gregg
      Thank you, this is exactly what I am looking for. But, I ran into another problem of which I have never seen before. For some reason I cannot set the value of the controls in the repeating section. I can do it by setting a default value for the control, but not using {dialog.object}.setValue. Here is a piece of code that fires when save button is clicked.

      {dialog.Object}.setValue('chkTravel','1');
      {dialog.object}.addRepeatingSectionRow('CONTAINER_2')
      var mynotedate = Date();
      var mytech = session.username;
      var mynotes = "Start Travel";
      // --- BELOW IS THE REPEATING SECTION ---
      {dialog.object}.setValue('OrderNumber','myordernumber');
      {dialog.object}.setvalue('dtNoteDate',mynotedate);
      {dialog.object}.setvalue('tstrUser',mytech);
      {dialog.object}.setvalue('memNotes',mynotes);
      {dialog.object}.submit();
      {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANELCARD_1');

        You're so close Lou,
        I think these will help you do what you want to do.
        {dialog.Object}.getRepeatingSectionActiveRow(sectionName ,flagLogicalRowNumber)

            Thanks again for the link. I've tried all I can think of. I'm getting an error when trying to set the value of the controls. Funny thing is I can set the value of the first control in the row, but not the other controls. Error is 'object doesn't support property or method 'setvalue'

              Lou,

              Show us what you isn't working (please include non-proprietary sample data if possible).
              Odds are pretty high we can make it work.

                Decided to start from scratch. New UX, added my tables and controls. So far it is working like a charm. Must have been something in the other UX that got corrupted along the way. Should have taken this approach from the beginning.
                Thanks for all your help!

                  I know that thinking. I've avoided repeating sections for so long because they just seemed to complicate things.
                  My first attempt at something with repeating sections failed miserably (something about the layout and scrolling kept binging me up).
                  My current effort is going much better.

                    Re: Progmatically insert record into repeating section

                    Yeah, a few years ago I built a Sales Quote app for the web and mobile. I used a repeating section, had item look-up, discounts, all the bells and whistles needed and it worked out very well. This current project is so simple when compared to that. Granted I've been idle for a while, but it should have gone real smooth. So, if not repeating sections, what is the alternative? A grid?

                      Kinda funny you say that...my current project is to create something so that when we give a quote, we have one place for everyone in the
                      building to recover the quote. I'm trying to make it as "idiot proof" as possible.

                        and yes...I'm fond of grids just because they're so useful for searching.
