Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I'm thinking of doing some complimentary video tutorials based on my DevCon Presentation in Orlando

For those of you who attended to talk I'm just looking for some views on what attendees thought of the topics presented and if they were valuable enough to expand on.

I did not attend Alpha DevCon this year, but I would certainly be interested in any video tutorials you would be kind enough to share with us.
I know from past experience that you are an out of the box thinker. I know your videos would be of value.

I attended this year. After the conference they sent us all of the presentations from the conference. There was a presentation about Alpha Launch that I was curios about, but I didn't see that presentation in what was sent to us. It was the same presentation that talked about Instant Update.

Well I was hoping for a little more feedback from the DevCon attendees, so I'll put the plan on hold unless some more contributions arrive. Many thanks to you both for your interest and comments.

I would love to see some videos please Pete. I can remember Alpha used to release some a few years back and they are sorely missed. For a part timer like me I just cannot warrant the trip but like to keep up with the innovation.

Pete, I can host them on iadn.com in the free video area.

In a related note, I am working on general cloud storage where users can store sample UX and other components or resources and then easily search for and retrieve.

I am quite perplexed why there would not be more interest about this ...

Pete - although not all developers attend* I would say the IADN Friday webinars are the place to put out ideas for new resources. All of those who attend are motivated and we often talk about resources for learning. I am positive that group would jump at the chance to view your work. I can present it for you or you can come join us.

Sounds good Steve, will put something together for you view and we can have a chat about getting it moving.

                  Thanks to all.

Re: I'm thinking of doing some complimentary video tutorials based on my DevCon Presentation in Orlando

                    Pete,
About 10 years ago when I started using Alpha I was completely lost having come from client-server coding and not realizing that you needed 5 languages to code for a website. HTML, CCS, JavaScript, XBasic & SQL. I almost quit Alpha until I started watching your videos.
Your videos are invaluable. A lot of coders watch your videos and learn from them, but they never comment on them. (That’s not a lack of interest) It’s because after we see your techniques we want to start working right away.
I started making videos myself because I felt it was a nice way to pay it forward. Without coders willing to share we would all struggle more than we need to. I looked at the stats a few years ago and I was surprised to see how many views one of my videos had. It was a simple solution, once I figured it out, but it took a while. I almost didn’t make a video because it was so simple. That video has received the most views.
I think this message board would be less without your contributions. Please keep the videos coming. Anything that you want to show us would be much appreciated. Please be inspired and know that a lot of coders are watching

Thanks Lee, will start looking at it all in Mid February - hook up with Steve and start with what people are most troubled by in AA when tying to present current looking components to meet client expectations and how to look beyond the rudimentary instructions provided Alpha videos and documents. Lee tell me what did you think of the topics and vision I covered when speaking at the DevCon.
                      Thanks Pete
