Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Issue with onDblClick event on ux list control

    Hi all

I have a list control on a ux component where traditionally I have an edit button which opens another ux control to edit the data. I am wanting to run that same action using onDblClick BUT if I double click a row that does not have focus then the opening ux does not populate with the data. If I select the row first and then double click it works! However if I click the button irrespective of if the row has focus it works. Both the button and the double click are firing the same javascript action.

To test this I have added an alert to the double click event to show the primary key and I get exactly the same behaviour.

So my question is how do I get the dblclick event to identify the row primary key?

Thanks in advance oh and go Rams! :-)

Re: Issue with onDblClick event on ux list control

I've tested this with the latest pre-release and see no issue. A double-click on an un-selected row does open the UX for editing and contains the correct record.

However, there is a lot of information missing.

What version/build of Alpha are you using? Remember that bugs are introduced and fixed in every release and pre-release. What works on day 1 could break on day 2 and be fixed on day 3 with day 1,2 and 3 being a mix of official releases and pre-releases.

    What Action are you using?
How is your UX for Editing built? Data bound?
Is your List Control Return value type set to PrimaryKey?

      Hi David

Latest production release only using primary key BUT all appears well if the list control is the main component on a ux (with a search section) . It appears to be an issue where I have a ux bound to data and the list control is filtered to show "child" records with the filter being a run time argument. The action is to open a ux component populated by ControlsOnCurrentComponent being the list variable which is set to the primary key. I suspect this might be a timing issue. I cannot see how the fact that it is filtered by an argument should effect this as the list correctly renders! Also I avoid using the Open a UX component to edit current record in a list control as this has appeared somewhat flaky in the past.

Re: Issue with onDblClick event on ux list control

Sorry Glen, this is a bit confusing. You're using Alpha build 5581.

You have a UX bound to data. Is this the UX used for editing the List row?

The List control is filtered to show child records. This is a Child List control... which therefore has a Parent List control?

The Action you're using is still unclear. I don't see an Action "open a ux component populated by ControlsOnCurrentComponent". Specifically, what is the Action Javascript name you are using... and how about a screen shot of how it's set up.

EDIT: I see now. You are using the Action "Open a UX Component"... and the property in this Action "Populated UX Component with Data from a table" is checked. Further, the property "Primary key source" is set to "ControlsoOnCurrentComponent".

Glen, have you tied putting your open UX code in a setTimeout()? I had similar double-click problems in a few grids. setTimeout() fixed it.

Re: Issue with onDblClick event on ux list control

Another aspect to this is that you have everything running in a Tabbed UI.

For my test I created a UX Component with a List Control showing Customer Info... and another UX Component with a List Component showing Customer Systems.

Customer Systems is a child table of Customers.

I created a 3rd UX Component, data bound, based on Customer Systems.

When I open the Customers UX, I select a row and the Customer Systems UX is opened with the List Control showing filtered rows based on the Customer selected. The filter is a run-time argument.

Double-Clicking on a Customer Systems List row opens the Customer Systems UX for editing.

All this seems to work... but I haven't tried it in a Tabbled UI.

Your Action to open the Edit UX seems to have Argument Bindings... which I'm not sure makes sense in this case... since you're getting the key from the List.

You really should be using the Action "Open a UX component to Edit Current Record in List Control..." You said you've had problems with this in the past... but issues like that can change from day to day with Alpha. Try it again. The methodology you're currently using is a bit complicated... and requires you to refresh your List Control after an edit. It's all a bit too messy.

Also, have you tested your UX components outside of the Tabbed UI? That Tabbed UI has a habit of getting in the way.

Thanks David, I did say in an earlier post that I have tried the other action but have the same result. The arguments are used to pass other details from the main ux to unbound fields which are then used to add details to the component.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the Action "Open UX as an alternate editing view for current record"... it wasn't clear.

It seems that something else is going on with your Tabbed UI and UX setups. I'm not seeing an issue with either Action... "Open a UX component" or "Open a UX component to Edit Current Record in List Control...".

                        Sorted!

Thanks for help all. In the end in the list properties the "Allow NULL selection" was checked!

I've tested with "Allow NULL selection" checked and un-checked. It works either way. Something else is going on... but with about 100 different property settings involved and not much info... it's impossible to figure out.

Glad it worked out for you in the end.
