Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • UX Grid Read only Label how to convert <value> to hyperlinkl

    Hello and thank you in advance for your help.

    I am on V12 building my first data driven web application, i have a UX in tabular layout grid with search and detail sections, it is set as Read only. One of my fields in an email address, i am trying to make the address show up as HOT or "hyperlink" or something on the onClick event so that it will launch the local mail client with the field value in the mailto: location on click.

    Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Maybe I am wrong, but I think all browsers are locked down now and their security will prevent you from trying to invoke a program (such as the local email client), unless you have a special add-in on the browser to do that.

      There is a Hyperlink control you can use in the UX. The click or onClick event could be something like this...

      var userEmail = {dialog.Object}.getValue('emailAddr');
      window.location.href = "mailto:" + userEmail + "?subject=Subject&body=test%20message%20goes%20here";
      This will open your default email program and fill in the items.

        Oh that worked for me on my developer machine. I thought I had checked into this before and it didn't work. Thanks for the correction. But...

          Rich, David; Thank you both for your quick reply's i will try some code and report back.

          This is an internal application and it is good to know the browser serttings may now play a roll as we might have to push a Group Policy to support this option.

            I didn't need to make any browser changes to either Chrome or Firefox... but you never know how different environments behave.

              Re: UX Grid Read only Label how to convert <value> to hyperlinkl

              Thank you all for the help it sent me in the right direction, mostly the Java Script needed to get the field value, David your code worked with some adjustments as follows for my particular sircumstance.

              I will preface this with the fact i am using a Grid and the field is displayed in the main grid, my goal was to have them double click the row item and it perform the mailto: using the local mail client, to
              accentuate the look feel i set the field color to link-blue and set bubble instructions. Code below has my pop up used for debugging but should make sense to those looking to do similar, this code was places in the Javascript section under double click as an inline java script action all done under a Label type field. Hope this helps others in the learning mode. Also so far no browner issues with IE, Chrome or Opera.

              //Get current field value in selected row
              RowVal= {grid.object}.getSelectedRow();
              eMailTo = {grid.object}.getValue('G','PERSEMAILADDR',RowVal);
              window.location.href = "mailto:" + eMailTo;

                Sorry, I thought you were using a UX. Just for clarify, it's referred to just as a Grid... not a UX Grid... since there is also a UX component.

                Glad it worked out.

                    While there are some good reasons to use a Grid, it is a very old component and tends to show it's age. The UX component is, in many cases, far more flexible.
