Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Get Search Values in xbasic for checked rows

    I have a Grid, I am using the Checked Rows to do some processing.

    While I'm getting ready to do the processing, I need to know the search criteria that was used. if I try using e._currentRowDataNew.FieldName it gets a value but it's from the original query and not the filtered one.

    My mind is not understanding how to do this.

    Any help would be appreciated.

      Re: Get Search Values in xbasic for checked rows

      I don't have any trouble in getting the selected rows but I need the criteria that was used in the original search.

      I am trying to do this in xbasic. I liked at the other forum post but didn't see where that will help me.

        In this particular case if I could even get a value from one of the selected rows that would work. But I would need a non-primary key value one of the regular fields

          I am trying to use the OnGridRowCheck to try to grab one of the values in the selected row and try to save to a "State" variable or session variable. Have not been able to get it to work yet. Not sure this is the correct way to do this, and maybe I'm making it over complex, but I am still going to try.

            Ok, I think I got it to work.

            I was going to put the code on the OnRowRender but that would mean it would run for each row.

            I ended up putting it in the CanSearch

            e._state.RoleID = e.searchDataSubmitted.XXXX (where XXXX is the field name

            Then in the xBasic code I looked at the value in e.__si2.XXXX
            and it seems to be working.

            I am hoping that e.__si2 is always the state variables.

              Re: Get Search Values in xbasic for checked rows

              I was going to suggest you use either e._gridCurrentArguments or e._gridCurrentArgumentsXML but when I tested it I found that, as usual, it's buggy, and there is no documentation. The bug is that these variables contain all values form all searches I've done. E.g. if I were to perform 3 searches, clearing each search before the next, then these variables would contain all 3 search arguments I'd used... not just the current search information. After 3 searches, I cleared the search criteria and then search only on Lastname... and here is the value of these variables...

              Code:
              41|||N|customer_id1
              %richard%|||C|firstname1
              %fuller%|||C|lastname1
              The grid search results are correct, but Alpha is not updating these Xbasic variables.

              There is an e._gridCurentArgumentsXML (one r in Current), but that looks like another bug... and it does not have a value.

              There is another variable... e.__si.PSP which does carry only the current values... but at this point I wouldn't trust it.

              What you're doing looks like the safest way to get what you need. It shouldn't be this tough... but it is.
