Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Change image source

    For years, I've had a simple javascript instruction to change a Static Image control. A while ago it stopped working - e.g. nothing happens - and I don't know why.

    There are many permutations on this of course, but below is an example of what should work, but does not:

    Code:
    document.getElementById('EDIT_INDIV.V.R1.IMAGE_AP').src = 'Imgs_Animals/9456_a.jpg';
    I'm certain the ID is correct, the image name and path are correct, the image file exists, case management is correct.

    There are no errors in the Chrome console or elsewhere that I know of.

    If I use the Chrome tools to inspect the element, and hand-change the default image in the html to the new one that I want, the image shows up just fine.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Change image source

    Looks valid code to me. But i have seen this in the past. Can you provide screen shot/s of the chrome debugger console please select the HTML element in question and have the HTML showing in the screenshots before altering it.

    what does the browser do when you copy and paste this code into the console. Does the Image then Show?

      I've tried executing that line of javascript in the console. No joy.

      But manually editing the image reference in the html here does work.

        Steve,
        This works for me.
        I gave the image an id and then changed the image with the push of a button.
        Here's the image tag:

        <img id = "myimage" src="walkway.jpg" class="" style="box-sizing: border-box; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -ms-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box;" title="" onerror="if(typeof DLG1_DlgObj != 'undefined') DLG1_DlgObj._executeEvent('onImageError',{element: this});">
        Here's the button text that changes the image:

        $('myimage').src = "Homestead_pdf.png";

          Re: Change image source

          Your code is pointing to the div that surrounds the image and not the image itself. I know you've said this has worked until recently but something must have changed either by you or Alpha. Your image needs an ID then you can change it's source using your method. I see in the developer an ID property for a static image control, however, that ID isn't applied to the actual image but the DIV surrounding it. So...maybe Alpha has change something?

                I see that but how did you assign it in the developer? The ID property, in the developer, gets assigned to the surrounding DIV and not the ID.

                  Re: Change image source

                  Yes, I've wondered about the ID issue as well. But again, I've changed nothing so there may well be a change in how Alpha's managing this.

                  Jay showed me in a PM video that the image itself can be replaced by hand in the html code - that works just fine.

                  So Jay: how did you get the image ID? Here's the control's properties in the IDE:

                  I suppose I could just hand-code a static text control to do this...

                    True confession (or confusion):
                    I hand coded the example I used in a static text. I'll look into alternative methods shortly.

                      I'm fine actually with the hand-code method. After all, the html I need is right there.

                        Hey Steve looking at the screen shot you provided it seems that the image is nested inside the div. I normally just use the following method. In the AA builder I give the image a unique class name like the name of the id of the control then i use the followig jQuery command

                        jQuery('.IMAGE_AP').attr('src','Imgs_Animals/9456_a.jpg');

                          Thanks. I think ya'll have helped identify the real problem, and that leads to a couple solutions that I'll have time to implement later today.

                          Alex - I see the tag line on your messages. It's work to read this, but excellent material: SuperIntelligence by Nick Bostrom. There's a TED presentation by him as well that is more easily consumed.
