Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Random Error Message in UX

Recently upgraded to latest build (5991) from previous one (5982) and receiving the following error message when I try to save the UX after making even the smallest modification to a UX (something as basic as moving the position of a control):

    Script: a5cb dialog2_DTC() line:4151
    Property not found
    wf.page_fields[] subelement not found.

Any ideas? I've already tried recalculating all controls.

Send Alpha the component, a screen shot of the bug, and a description of it. Then I'd role back to 5887.

Thanks Mike. I was in denial that I'd have to go down that road! 5887 seems stable with the exception of the fact that there are issues with synchronization and offline. I was hoping these would have been fixed in subsequent releases. Guess not.

I am getting the exact same error. Seems to be only on some UXs that I have not edited in a long time, maybe 2 years or more.

Looks like another bug to me.

I forwarded a test case for this to Selwyn yesterday. It's a bug that should be fixed in a release today. It has to do with the nesting of containers, tab controls, repeating sections, etc. when the component is getting saved or rendered in the newest version.

It happens with me, no containers, tab controls, or repeating sections though.

Bob, have you sent a test component with a bug report to Alpha? It may be two unrelated issues or it may have something to do with another property setting that is in both our components.

Hello Brad, I'll do that later today. My problem is with embedded pdf files I get an error message as follows: Cannot read property 'filename' of undefined. This has worked fine up until the current release.

Bob - That definitely sounds like a different issue. No bug release today so Alpha must have their hands full with this one. The release notes did say they made significant changes to the save process to try and speed up the time it took to save a component. These appear to be the unforeseen scenarios that creep into every programmer's "improvements".

                      Hi Brad,

I've sent a bug report so, finger crossed it doesn't take too long to identify and correct the cause.

Any kind of testing would help solve these issues before release... but Alpha would rather release and patch at the developer's expense than test. It's not the right way... and it's getting much worse.

Re: Random Error Message in UX

This is turning out to be a bigger issue than originally thought. The new Pre-release that was supposed to fix the issue is broken and creates new errors. If you mistakenly to a batch update of your UX or you recalculate controls, the only way to recover a usable version in an earlier version of Alpha is to restore from backups. I'm hoping that Alpha will resolve this soon. In the meantime we're taking all of our production back to the June 5887-5315 release that was stable.

Yes, I had that problem. I had to revert to the previous stable release and have had no problems with that.

"stable" within Alpha is a very relative term. Stable for one feature, un-stable for another. I wish Alpha would adopt some kind of testing protocol. Something... anything... would be better than nothing.
