Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

newbie: more Sync issues on Phonegap app

I'm starting with this example from Giant Killer Training.
My issue is that I have no clue what to do, w.r.t. Phonegap AJAX callback path

I can make a APK (doing Android only) easy enough and load it on the phone.

    1) Is it possible that its not even communicating with my server? I can run it, and the sync never syncs - orange triangle stays there. But I tried something - I shut down my licensed (development) server and I can still run the APK and see Customers - how can that be? I'd like to move the Alphasports.mdb to MSSQL but didn't want to hassle with it this late in the night. Did the .mdb and connection string get moved to the APK and its getting that locally? sounds crazy!

    2) From the other threads, they talk about "Allow All" on UX Security - I'm not logging in, so thats not applicable.

    3) I'm not sure what to enter in the phonegap Ajax call path.
    I'm on port 1234
So I have to at least be: 111.222.111.222:1234 (for example)
But then I don't understand the Publish directory (default vs. another subdirectory).
One post asked "if you enter in your phonegap Ajax path in your browser..." - doesn't make sense - I have to enter "... /PhoneGapProjects/Default/www/index.html" in the URL to see my app.

from a DavidK post, he said to get off stupid .mdb files - I'd like to, but I didn't want to break this example. but I need to move this to mssql

    clueless. lost. tired.
can't search for a phrase (ie. 2 words together, like 'ux security', 'ajax callbacks') in the forum so there's just too much crud to search thru)

Re: newbie: more Sync issues on Phonegap app

There's a lot packed into your post... and there's a lot of info missing... like what Alpha build you're using.

First, get off the mdb files. If the example is using mdb files then it's a bad example. Do the work, start fresh, do whatever you need to do... and get off the mdb files. Why waste your time trying to get something to work that is 1. not good 2. you're going to abandon anyway.

Second, your URL for All Ajax Callbacks should in be the format of: http://192.168.0.17:81/AlphaTest. AlphaTest is the folder where I am publishing my UX Component. In your Web, Project Settings, in the Profile you're using to publish, you can use a Target Folder. If you're using this property, then use the same folder in your Callback URL. If that property is blank then your Callback URL would just be http://192.168.0.17:81/

Your App still runs (without a connection) because it's installed on your device... data and all. That's how the Alpha PGB builder works. If you look at the index.html file generated by Alpha you'll see data in that file. By default, whatever data is in a List, etc. when you run your UX locally... will be in your app. Usually there are filters in place to prevent data from being loaded... but at your stage you get data.

If you have Security turned on for your project... and you should have... you need to set the Security for your component to Always Allowed. Whether you're using that Security, at this point, is irrelevant.

Re: newbie: more Sync issues on Phonegap app

      Hi,
if you are using dropdown to select customers, they will be populated from the development environment as default data when building the phonegap.
you have to issue an explicit refresh to have them updated.
for the ajax call path : you server needs a public IP, the firewall should allow the alpha anywhere app server.
then in the ajax call path it should be : your http://your ip : port /the app folders
as an example if your public : 185.2.154.13 and your are using port 81 and you published your app under a folder name myapp then the ajax call path will be : http://185.2.154.13:81/myapp/
I never used ip 6, but I believe it is the same.

a good idea is to use the phonegap shell template, you can then easily change your info and make it works before using your own initial component.

I hope this will get you started.

      Paul
