Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Transforming simple App to mobile

    Hi
I have a "simple" app, consisting of one UX with a few list controls.
It's for drivers that get their scheduled reservations in a list, and can just click when they pickup/dropoff passengers or when they arrive to specific locations.
Currently i gave the the a5w address, they login then see their reservations.
The data is a MariaDB DB which is constantly synced with their Backend ( an old VFP application that runs the rosters for all drivers ).
They started using it, and they like it very much, but they have many requests that would first need to go native ( they all use Android )
    - Assuming a driver loads the app and sees his reservations, and there is a new one for him, they need some notification to popup telling them there is a new reservation
    - I would like to add some Geolocation tracking so when they arrive to the airport (their final destination) i could automatically update the driver's status

Checked Alpha Anywhere documentation, but some stuff seems ambiguous. For instance the in the documentation they say the geolocation plugin is limited to ios, while checking in the cordova/phonegap websites it should also work for Android

So what should i do? Use Phonegap build to manage through the default phonegap app builders in AA, or should i use the CLI ?
Do i have to use pushwoosh for my notifications to the drivers, or is there some other way to achieve that?

    Many thanks
    Jaime

Geolocation has worked for Android, IOS and IPADOS. We are currently using on several apps created using PhoneGap. Also, you don't have to use pushwoosh as there are several other providers out there, including just using a regular smtp mail account (to send email and/or sms).

just be glad they all use android, because iOS is a real pain in the butt to be starting from scratch

        Thanks Sean
I wasn't talking about sending sms or emails, but rather either raise a notification in the phone when the driver receives a new ride and also raise a popup message if he receives the ride while using the app

...and also what did you use to build the Android apk, phonegap build or phonegap cli?

I'm not sure that your app would require the complexity you'll encounter with Phonegap CLI... and I can't really see why you'd need it.

Phonegap Build should give you what you need.

The background geolocation plugin you are referring to is, I think, cordova.background-geolocation-lt. You must be specific about these things. The Alpha doc was written in 2017 and Alpha rarely updates their terrible doc. It's possible Android was added after... but... using this plugin under Android requires a license fee.

There is another plugin... @mauron85/cordova-plugin-background-geolocation - which does not require an Android license fee... so have a look at that... but read the doc carefully.

What reason would you have for not using Alpha and Phonegap Build?

Same question regarding Pushwoosh (or similar service). If you want notifications, then you must use a service that provides that.

Of course i would prefer to use Phonegap build with Alpha, it's just that i was confused to think i would need the CLI if i wanted to use the geolocation plugin.
I will look at your suggestions, many thanks David

I wouldn't think so. As long as a plugin is for Phonegap Build, then it will be ok. Plugins for Phongap or Cordova will not work most of the time in Phonegap Build.
