Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Possible to have a list inside a list?

    Hi
Is it possible to have a list control inside a list control? Or something like a row expander but open for all rows?
For instance in a Order/OrderProducts scenario i'd like a list that looks like:

Order: 1234 Customer: ALFKI Date: 13/12/2019
    Product: Product1 Quantity: 1 Amount: 200$
    Product: Product3 Quantity: 2 Amount: 300$

Order: 1235 Customer: JOHN Date: 13/12/2019
    Product: Product3 Quantity: 2 Amount: 300$

In this sample my list has 2 rows, each row has 3 fields and the child list control with the products for each order...

This is for an app that needs to run on a mobile, i don't have height limits for each order, but would like to have it all on 1 page instead of clicking then jumping to a panel with the child list like i do now...

    Thanks
    Jaime

The list has grouping capabilities. I think what you want is a grouped list.

Thanks David. I saw that video prior to posting here, it shows/hides fields from the current list. What i need is to show a sub list of records for each row in the list.
Larry that's actually a very good idea, i will in fact do like with reports for this case where the base query will run on the OrderProducts then group by OrderID. Many thanks!

Are you looking to modify the list data or just view?

You could call it "only view", because the data is modified by clicking on buttons ( mostly acknowledges that get updated using Ajax callbacks )

I tried group breaks, not really workable in my scenario, i thought i could put some template for the group header with many fields and nice formatting, but seems very difficult. I may also need to put buttons in there...so, i'm still looking for other ideas you may have

You could use javascript. You can still have your list with detail view, etc., but don't have the list visible (keep on hidden panel card). You would have two lists related. In javascript create two arrays, one for the primary and one for the secondary. Create an HTML template to display the data in the format you want. So, use the list object but don't directly display it. Unfortunately, I don't have time today to hunt down any code for you, but it's out there! Happy Hunting. If you need assistance I can help after the Christmas holiday.

If the detail records of the inner list do not have to be clickable, you could always display them as an HTML table inside your main list record.

Re: Possible to have a list inside a list?

One method you could use which is sort of an exploit but might work very well in a mobile application to "see" related records is to use a edit-combo lookup using a textbox in the detail view of the list. this saves visual space and doesn't increase the loading time because the lookup would only occur during the drop down - and you can format that to look like whatever you want.
so you create a textbox and setup an edit-combo like if you were going to lookup and fill in a field except you don't you just get a drop-down with the related orders by using a dynamic filter and then simply displaying the "list info" your looking for instead of setting up the additional overhead of a list.
to me that's the easiest way...with the least overhead affecting load time plus you can easily get fresh data with every look-up.
On the other hand it's not as you asked to be "in the list" to do that I would strongly recommend a view where you can pull anything into the list
