Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Audit feature works on some databases but not others ...

I have 3 MYSQL databases on one server. Alpha's audit feature works on 2 of the 3, but not on one of them. I have compared the audit_table_a5 tables in all 3 databases and can see no difference in fields or field definitions. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might look?

How does it not work? Are you getting errors? Does the audit not insert the records? You need to share some more details about how it's failing otherwise it's anyone's guess what's going wrong here.

No errors messages. It just does not insert any records. The audit table is completely empty for that one database.

Further information: I have checked that the databases all have correct privileges - they all do, and they all are exactly the same, so that does not appear to be the issue.

I have also worked with a consultant on this and we could not ascertain why this problem occurs on just the one database, while the other two work as expected. We agreed that I would post to the msg board to see if anyone else had this problem or have any ideas how to solve it.

        Any ideas?

And here is a bit more info:

That one database, when copied to my development machine, DOES work, suggesting something is different about the server for that one database. But I am stumped as to where to look ...

any chance you could create a new db and see if that works? is this 3 separate transactions or one call and 3 inserts?

You have 3 databases .. are there also then 3 Alpha applications? Same Alpha builds?

The only time I have seen something like this was when the audit feature was first introduced in a pre-release, I forget which build.
I used the pre-release to try out the auditing feature and it all worked fine but when I updated to the official release later on, the audit table quit working. No errors, just stopped working.
It turned out that between the pre-release and the official release Alpha added an extra field to the audit table.

It perhaps doesn't sound like your case here as you say you have carefully compared the table fields, but I'm just throwing it out there. Can you try having Alpha regenerate the audit table for your failing database?

Re: Audit feature works on some databases but not others ...

                Thanks Charles and Stephen,

                More info:

I actually have 4 physical servers. database1 and database3 work on all 4 servers, while database2 does not work on any server.

dtaabase2 when copied to my local machine works

Same alpha version on all servers and all WAS instances.

Again, leads to me to believe there must be something in the permissions for database2 on all servers, but again they look identical to me.

Still looking in to this ...
