Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    UX - List Control - SetValue using javascript

    Hi,

    In the new UX control, you can read values from javascript in the usual way, using this syntax:

    Code:
    var firstname = {dialog.object}.getValue('list::LIST1::Firstname');
    But I have not been able to use SetValue.

    I have tried:

    Code:
    {dialog.object}.setValue('list::LIST1::Firstname','Smithsonian');
    With no succes.

    In one of the videos this syntax is described:

    Code:
    {dialog.object}.setValue('list1','Amanda');
    And in fact it works, but only for the Field that you choosed as the "Return Field" for the list control.

    Has somebody been able to SetValue in the other fields?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Roger

    This is from Alpha Anywhere documentation - it explains pretty well, but shout out if you have any more questions:

    //This gets a pointer to the list control
    var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');

    //EXAMPLE 1: update the 4th row (index is zero based)
    listObj.updateRow(3,{firstname: 'John', lastname: 'Smith'});

    //EXAMPLE 2: update the row for list primary key value of 'ALFKI' (List is configured to return the Primary Key)
    listObj.updateRow('ALFKI',{firstname: 'John', lastname: 'Smith'});

        No worries - I pulled it from the Alpha Anywhere beta, under the updateRow method.

        In case you are not on the beta ... here is the help text for:

        Append Rows:
        var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
        var _d = [
        {firstname: 'John', lastname: 'Smith'},
        {firstname: 'Fred', lastname: 'Harris'}
        ]
        listObj.appendRows(_d);

        Remove Rows:
        //assume that the List was configured to return Lastname values
        var _d = ['Smith','Jones',5];
        //delete the row for 'Smith', 'Jones' and also the 6th row.
        var listObj = {dialog.object}.removeRows(_d);

            Re: UX - List Control - SetValue using javascript

            You can easily do this with javascript. For example a grid based on the sample "artists" table with a field called "FIRST_NAME" in it's detail view:

            put this code in the client side event called "AfterDetailViewOpen"

            The ID of the element (in this case the input field FIRST_NAME) can be found using firebug for example.

            var p = document.getElementById('GRID1.D.V.R1.FIRST_NAME');
            p.focus();
            Frank

            Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand

              Re: UX - List Control - SetValue using javascript

              Found this thread and it answers MOST of my problem.

              How do I commit the change to the data once I have changed it?

              In this application I need to modify the record before the current one when the user enters information in the current row. I have the change working and it appears in my list but I need to save and synch...

              I have added lines to my Java to save and synch it - and it looks like it's working but the modified data is not actually saving. Here is my code.

              function timeOnCode() {

              var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
              var xData = lObj._data
              var xDLen = xData.length;

              // if no records do not do anything
              if(xDLen <= 1){

              return;
              }

              // Loop through and calculate times

              var p = 0;
              var i = 1;

              for(p = 0; p < xDLen; p++) {

              var i = p + 1;

              var sTimeStr = xData[p].TCTimeStarted;
              var eTimeStr = xData[i].TCTimeStarted;

              var sTime = new Date();
              var eTime = new Date();

              sTime.fromFormat(sTimeStr,'MM-dd-yyyy 0h:0m am');
              eTime.fromFormat(eTimeStr,'MM-dd-yyyy 0h:0m am');

              var diffTime = eTime - sTime; //milliseconds
              var tSpent = (diffTime / 60000)

              lObj.updateRow(p,{TCElapsedTime:tSpent});
              lObj.updateListFromUXControls();

              {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST1',{rows: 'allRows'});

              }

              }
