Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    TabbedUI: Dynamically change button/link text...

    In my application, I use the TabbedUI. Within the tabbedui, I have a set of links that open reports in the tabbedui main page. This is what it looks like:

    tabbedui.png

    What I want to be able to do is dynamically changed the text for the button/links based upon session variables. For instance, if they select a different date range, I would then automatically update the text in the controls to show the new date ranges for the different reports.

    For instance: "2013/2014" would be "2014/2015"

    I have tried putting alpha script in the button text, but it doesn't run the alpha script.

    I also love the new tree control that has been release in V12, but I see no way of "embedding" it into the tabbed ui menu structure.

    Any idea's?

    Dion,

    I think you could name the links with some unique code for example #123abc# then use the tabbed ui's other properties to change the property .precalc.ControlHTML with a search & replace of #123abc# into whatever you'd like to display. The "other properties" property of components are extremely powerful; just select the xbasic tab bottom left of a component and see the xbasic magic behind your component, then decide how to alter the xbasic code to your needs.

        Quick follow up. I have not found much documentation on how to use this capability. It looks like it will fit the bill. Do you have any other links (or examples) on how this works. Thanks in advance!

          Dion,

          It tuns out it is another property you have to strtran. So in "Other properties" of your tabbed ui component put this code:

          (I put "#cust#" as button text in the component builder when I created the tabbed UI, "#cust#" probably is unique in my sample project but you can use anything as long as it is unique in your application)

          tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML = strtran (tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML,"#cust#",session.yourvariable)

              I must have something off. I am going to abuse your hospitality with a follow up question. Enclosed is the xbasic for the dialog. I have added the "#cust#" to the specific control. It might be the control type, but it is not substituting the information. Here is the "Other Properties" that I added.

              tmpl.precalc.ControlHTML = strtran (tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML,"#cust#","hello")

              Again, enclosed is the xbasic code for the dialog that shows the specific control the #cust# is located at.

              dialog xbasic code.zip

              Thanks in advance!

                Dion,

                You're mixing my first suggestion (which was incorrect because I did not test that) with my second suggestion (which I did test).

                You need: tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML = strtran (tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML,"#cust#","hello")

                Basically you are replacing the "unique" string "#cust#" in tmpl.precalc.buttonPanel.HTML with "hello"

                  Quick update. I ran the problem by Selwyn and he had a simple solution. The trick is that the following only works when the buttons are NOT in a tree control. Selwyn will be adding a fix for this to an upcoming build.
                  Thanks for your amazing support frank! Hope this is helpful.
