Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Error Running Grid - Too Many Parameters

I'm trying to open a Grid component with a Detail View via a TabbedUI on my published project, but I'm getting an error:

    error.jpg

I've taken a look at the offending field (a dropdown box which updates a field named "ecomm"), played around with it, removed it and re-added it, but I'm still getting the error when browsing the published site and I'm stuck as to what could be the issue.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?
    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    - Thanks!

Try to isolate the issue by creating a small component with those elements that you suspect to cause the error & publish frequently. You'll have to narrow this down some way. It is most certainly possible to open a grid with DV in a tabbed UI.

Re: Error Running Grid - Too Many Parameters

Had a play around with it -
Removed the field from the Detail View and published; no error.
Added the field again but as a TextBox; no error.
Tried changing it back to a DropDown box; Error running Grid!

I also made a new Grid component and added the field in question; I'm getting the same issue on that grid, so it could be something on the database side.

Thinking on it, I'm going to try changing a few other TextBox fields to DropDowns and see if they turn up the same error.

I'd focus on the dropdown definition; is it static, dynamic, variable ? Try to create the simpliest component possible & you'll probably find the cause.

Re: Error Running Grid - Too Many Parameters

Ok, this error seems to occur for at least any type nvarchar field that I create as a DropDown control.

Looking back at the error, it seems like Alpha is calling the function a5gridHelper_getList() as an argument in a call to a5gridHelper_getList()!

This is looking more and more like a bug.

Are you on v12 ? Quickly tested on v12 (1507-4150) and it works but in V11 it does not (I'm not at the latest (prerelease)patch though for v11, I'm on 3338-4088)

Hmmm... you'll have to narrow this down further I'm afraid so that you can send a sample to Selwyn if you think it is indeed a bug. Don't have the time to elaborate further on it right now; sorry

                    Ok, new development.

Apparently we're using the Alpha 5 V11 Application Server.
Could this be affecting the build?

If that's the case then I'm confused by how it could be working fine yesterday and causing me hell today.
I'm trying to think of what I could have changed between it working and not working, but I made a lot of changes before my first publish.
I did import a few pages from our old Alpha5 V10 application, but both the new and the imported components are suffering the error.

Any component with a DropDown field is turning up the same error
                    Script:TEMPLATE line: 18 rtc.grid_part.dropdownboxchoices.NAME = a5gridHelper_getList(rtc, rtc.a_lis a5gridHelper_getList(rtc,rtc.a_listCache,listDef,rv,"dropdownbox",rtc.a_connectionCache,tmpl): Too many parameters
I just tried publishing to the Local Webroot, had a play around with it, but it worked fine - no errors.

Re: Error Running Grid - Too Many Parameters

You should not develop in a different version then the version you will eventually publish it to. Developer & server have to match exactly. That explains why for me in v12 things worked but not in v11.

Yeah, we're upgrading the server now.
I'll post back when I've tried publishing to the new server.
