Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX Dialog not submitting or resetting on IPad

I have a working, data bound UX dialog that acts as a popup detail screen from a grid. It works fine on all my desktop browsers but on both safari and chrome on my iPad it fails to acknowledge either reset or submit after the first record I display and submit. The buttons become enabled when I make a change but it appears that no callback is being sent. The dialog won't let me close because the message comes up to submit or reset but neither of those options works so I am forced to refresh the browser and start over. This appears to be a bug and I will submit it Monday to Alpha but just wondered if anyone else had seen this issue.

    Brad,

What event are you using for your submit button? onClick or Click ? You have to use Click for touch enabled devices.

I've tried inserting the code {dialog.object}.submit() in both the Click and OnClick events of the button and the results are the same. The first time I submit a record the form works. When I open another record in the form I'm and make a change I cannot submit, reset and of course Alpha won't let me close the form because it's dirty and unsaved. Again, the same form works perfectly on desktop browsers.

        Brad

        You might consider adding a cancel button with the following to get you out of the Dialog, {dialog.Object}.resetForm('false');

Then put an alert in the Submit action so you can see if it is firing. I don't know what else you have in the code but my guess is something is stopping the Submit and the alert will confirm if the submit is firing.

So after adding an alert I find that the first time I open the dialog and either submit or reset the form the alert pops up. When I reopen the dialog and make a change and then touch either button the alert does not show so the javascript is not executing the second time I open the component. I submitted this to Selwyn and he responded that he could not reproduce it and does not think it's a bug in Alpha. I'm at a bit of a loss.

Here's a simple database project linked to Northwind that demonstrates this. You'll have to change the Alpha connection string "Northwind" to point to your database.

To test what I'm talking about open the DefaultGrid in Remote Test mode on an Ipad or Iphone

Type in A for the company name and search

Press the Edit key on any record to bring up the UX Dialog. Make a change and submit.

Now repeat by editing another record. Once you've made a change you are unable to submit or reset the form and you cannot close the dialog.

Further testing reveals that the same behavior occurs on my Android phone running Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

                Brad,

I'll take a look at this later today. I'm quite sure this is not a bug as my experience has shown me that most items are programming issues.

I get the same behavior with your test database on Android 4.2.2

Thanks Lance. It's good to know that it's repeatable for others. Tom I certainly won't rule out programming issues but this is a pretty simple example so unless I'm just missing something (which with the complexity of Alpha, javascript and all the interactions we now have to account for I wouldn't doubt) it seems like something that should work and does work on the desktop.

I've submitted this test case to Selwyn and he's looking at it as well.

Further testing, if you check use cached UX component in the grids button1 onClick event, it works as it should.

Absolutely right! Thanks! I'll change it to cached for now. There are times when I want to initialize the dialog when it's opened for a new record and I'd like the OnDialogInitialize event to fire but this is not one of those times so this will get me over the hump for now. Lance I forwarded your discovery to Selwyn so hopefully they'll remedy this issue in the next patch.

                          Hi Brad,

I had a chance to look at the component and yes it does not work. For me it will not work even if the cached grid is on. I did run into this on another more complicated UX I created and I ended up just coding an update statement into the submit. But it should work as designed so keep us posted if you get more info on it.

                            Hi Tom,

You have to go into the javascript action on the button on the grid and edit the action and turn on the Use Cached UX Component there. Selwyn has looked at this and determined that there is an issue when using non-cached components where the javascript for the submit and reset events get bound twice when a subsequent call is made to the component. In the meantime using the cached component works fine.
