Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hide Panel Navigator Back Button

Hi, I have a panel navigator configured as a list. The header is enabled and has a Back button. Alpha auto hides the back button until you nav to another panel then it appears. This is fine except if I use a method to navigate from a panel back to the Panel Navigator list the Back button is visible when it should be hidden - and if pressed goes to the last panel viewed which isn't suitable behavior. How can hide the Back button whenever the Panel Navigator list gets the focus?

To navigate back to the Panel Navigator list I've tried both the Panel Nav First option and the Panel Set Active option.

    Thanks, Richard.

Can anyone help here? Perhaps there a way to hide the button grammatically, or even refresh the Panel Navigator but I can't see one?

      Here's a blunt force approach.

You don't say if you're using Action Javascript to navigate from your Panel back to the Navigator, or code... but... add this to your code, or as In-Line Javascript in your Actions...

      Code:
      $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.BUTTON_1').style.display="none";
The Navigator Back button has a Style Display of "None" to start with.

Find the button name with Firefox or Chrome. My button had an ID of 'DLG1.V.R1.BUTTON_1' and you replace DLG1 with the {dialog.ComponentName} placeholder so that it will play nice in the future or if you change something. Your button may have a different name so find out it's ID and use that in the code.

Now, when you click your button, or whatever, to return to the Navigator, the Back button will disappear.

Re: Hide Panel Navigator Back Button

Actually while it did hide the button I found it only did so temporarily... when I selected another option in my nav list then hit the back button the button didn't auto hide. Seems that approach might mess with the under-the-hood behavior of a5.

Anyway I got the desired result by creating some inline js to programatically click the back button 3 times which gets me back to the panel nav list and a5 auto hides the button just as if the user had pressed the back button 3 times.

The code I used was {dialog.object}.buttonClick('BUTTON_2'); and I created 3 inline js action js events using this same code in each. I also ticked the box to run them in sequence. Works like a charm.

Re: Hide Panel Navigator Back Button

Yes... I wondered about that as well. In my test, A PanelNavigator with one PanelCard the Back button behaved well. It displayed moving from the Navigator to the Card. It disappeared when I clicked my button to go back to the Navigator due to my code. The back button appeared again when I moved to the Card again using the Nav List. But it seems your UX is more complex. However, You shouldn't have to fake out a button click 3 times. Could you describe the issue with in more detail? Or post a sample UX? Thanks.

Hi David, yes the UX is more complex and I needed to go back to the Panel Nav from 3 panels deep on the UX. In other words my app goes from a selection on the Nav List - Panel1 - Panel2 - Panel3. So to manually nav back from panel 3 to the Panel Nav List the user would press the back button in the Panel Nav Header 3 times. I've stuck a "Back to Main Menu" button on Panel3 and simulated 3 button presses as described above which achieves the desired result. Ultimately though I'd like to see A5 auto hiding the Back button no matter what method is used to nav back to the Panel Nav List.
