Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

DemoApp - Script error at lesson 11 - video 1

Following Demo App I get an error

After adding splitmenu list - when I goto Preview

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

    Line 10957
    Char: 3
Error: Unable to get property 'spli' of undefined or null reference
    code: 0
    URL: a5res:javascript/a5.js

do you want to continue running scripts on this page Y/N

How do I find the problem and correct it ?

I went back to my copy of the app up to lesson 10 end

NB: May Alpha Anywhere is up-to-date

    Note:
Also as I didn't have Northwind connection setup already on this
I converted the MDB file to MySQL and using that my connection is NorthwindMySQL

Re: DemoApp - Script error at lesson 11 - video 1

Quick update... SAME error at Lesson 16 Start

    Finally downloaded Lesson 16

When I got to record > Menu > Map

Map open ONCE only then clicking MAP again same Javascript error Line 1202 - Property 'Setmap'

I guess my PC is messed up or its an Alpha Bug (tried just re-install of the latest version)

question is how do I debug the error - there is NO 'a5.js'

If I close and reopen Alpha - Map is displayed ONCE again but not twice !

      Hi Bas,

I ran across this issue and reported it to Selwyn:

"Following along in the Tutorial - Building the Sample Mobile Application Lesson11 part2 at the 1:10 minute mark.
      http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...eMobileApp.htm
If the Fill Container property is selected for the SLIDEINMENU list, a javascript error "Unable to get property 'split' of undefined or null reference" pops up in working preview."

Sounds like the same issue, this is fixed in the pre-release build.

Thanks - it was the same issue you mentioned.

I have the same issue but if I uncheck the fill container option my list doesn't show up. If I click the menu button this is the error.

OK, so I started on lesson 12 and noticed that the menu list name was changed to MENULIST instead of slideinmenu. That fixed the issue.

Oh well, now the list items don't work. They don't show an alert or open any other panel. The list closes when an item is selected.

BTW - when is the rest of the tutorial going to be released?

That build was confirmed by Selwyn to have the javascript error associated with the Fill Container property.
He issued me a hotfix Build 1564_4157 that took care of the bug.

The latest pre-release is beyond this build now BUT user beware that it is a pre-release not an official release!

                      to get the pre-release

                      go to the help menu
                      select help/view release notes
in second paragraph, you will see a link to the pre-release notes

Note: this is a PRE-RELEASE so not for production !
