Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problems with the Video Component on a SSL site

    Hi All,
We have an Alpha Anyware App hosted with Zebra Host and it is running SSL. In it we have a list control that lists help videos that are hosted on YouTube
The problem is it all works like a dream on our test server.... that is not SSL
On the Live site(SSL enabled) IE pops up a message saying "Only secure content is enables and asks the user if they want to enable if they say yes then it is OK... for that session anyway
Chrome basically just doesn't display the video, full stop.
I am picking the problem is we are on a HTTPS site and basically calling YouTube which is http so going from a secure site to an insecure site ... also domain jumping I guess
We have tried specifying the YouTupe links in the table to be https://youtube.com/blahblah and if you do that directly into a browser then it is fine but it seems even though we pass that into the video component the resulting video it calls is http://youtube.com/blahblah. so the component is stripping the s.
Has anyone else tried to do a setup anything like ours?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Bruce

Just a thought: I think I recall seeing somewhere that you can temporarily turn off SSL. If true, you could do that for the one page that the component is on ...

You could ask Bob Moore as he wrote the video component. It looks indeed as if the s gets stripped of; if you create a sample video component & add en "s" to the default video url then preview it , then rightclick on the video to copy the video url you see indeed that is is back to http. Could be something easy to update for Bob; don't know for sure though.

I just happened to be in the map component and that has a "use SSl property" so maybe you could send a suggestion/feature request to Alpha to implement it on the videoplayer.

          Thanks Frank,

I will pass this onto Alpha and see what they say, You are right the video component is missing SSL compatibility.

Thanks Frank I have posted a Bug report and included you helpful screen shot of the "Use SSL" from Google maps.
Seems like an simple oversight, will see what happens.

Re: Problems with the Video Component on a SSL site

The problem is a bug in the YouTube oEmbed API (which we utilize) that always returns "http://..." in the JSON results.

I've added a new property to the video component which filters the YouTube oEmbed results and always adds a "https://" prefix if the Use SSL property is checked within the video component properties.

Thanks for the bug report on this.

Just to let everyone know, this has been addressed in Build 1617-4170
There is now an "Use SSL" flag
We have tested this out our SSL site and works a treat now.

                Thanks Bob!

Re: Video Player Component on non-SSL hosted site (opposite to above)

Hi Just new to Alpha and looking at a issue on Videos. I have hosting site Alpha on http (not https) and using Alpha Video Player Component. When I use Vimeo the video/Id it works fine but when I use Youtube it seems by default that Alpha takes me to https youtube and I get console protocol errors below.

Also cant see any more where Video Component has a Use SSL as above posts indicate.

Just wandering how vimeo worked off my http site and youtube does not. Don't know if both are passing out "//youtube.com/videoid" without the https so that the video services can match the source request site to its video?

                  Protocol Console Errors:
VM1294:1 Uncaught SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin "https://www.youtube.com" from accessing a frame with origin "http://myalphasite". The frame requesting access has a protocol of "https", the frame being accessed has a protocol of "http". Protocols must match.

Is there something I am missing - All the videos seem to be live preview and the Alpha Video component download gets same console errors but browsers continue to force display in test but not on live production site and especially not in PhoneGap app (at least for me that is).

Would appreciate any suggestions or confirmations that Video Component (on a http site) does work to show Youtube videos (as http) ?

P.S I am using 11th 2016 Preview Build but I believe this is probably related to major build releases.

                  Cheers
                  Brian

Re: Problems with the Video Component on a SSL site

I'm having SSL problems with the video player control because the browser would not allow mixed protocols. In this case https domain mixed with http video links.
