Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

A5 V12 can use all processor cores of a server at once?

A5V11 uses only one processor core. So, to take advantage of server power we must run multiple instances of WAS, each one attached to one IP to keep them running on port 80.

Is is the same with V12? Do I need to run multiple instances of WAS as it was with V11?

I could not find any info on Alpha Wiki - (it seems V12 info is not yet complete...)

Yes, it runs only on a single instance.
Fortunately, you can run multiple instances on the same machine, with the same license number (I think up to 4 cores).
The point is that you must have an IP for each instance, if you want all instances running on port 80.
You configure the IP binding on the Application Server.
If you can use only one IP, you must choose a different port for each server, like 81, 82, 90, etc.
But this will force you to put the port number on your URL.

The best solution is to add 3 more IPS.

If you have many applications, or customers, you can distribute your apps among the ips.

But if you have an app that has large concurrence, I don't know how can you have the same app on the four IPs and manage to distribute the load over the 4 cores.

Maybe someone else can help us with this.

      Tks,

It is all a matter of some time before the IIS plugin will be ready & available, then you'll be able to do virtual hosting for example and all with just 1 IP address.

Nobody has said we can do virtual hosting with the IIS plugin, why does anyone expect that (for free) as a given just because IIS can support virtual hosting.

It is indeed an assumption on my part but as the current licensing is based on cores I'd expect virtual hosting indeed to become reality with the IIS plugin.

A question and a comment--first, I'm running v11 but thought I saw something related to v12 about not being able to run multiple instances without also purchasing additional licenses. Can someone clarify?

As a comment, we have an internal application, so I don't have to worry about the less-than-ideal setup of having a port number in the url (e.g. www.mysite.com:81/index.a5w), but we're running multiple instances with AlwaysUp from one IP but through different ports, so that may be an option for you.
