Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    session variable in Upload Folder path

    I'm using the Image Upload in a UX component and have the Upload Folder being set by session.CustomerID. What I want to do is add "images/" before the customer ID so I can have each user have a folder inside "images" and not in the A5Webroot. But I can't figure out the proper syntax for it. Would I set it in the Upload Folder or would I create a new Session variable called session.UploadPath which would combine the CustomerID and the "images/"?

    I've tried all possible combinations but can't get it to work right. Any help would be appreciated.

    You'll need to create that new session variable and combine the two. I've just gone through the process and a session variable is viewed as a literal string if combined with other text for the upload folder name.

      This thread uses an Ajax Callback in the upload button.
      http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...le+upload+path

      This is my code that works there.

      function setUploadFolder as c (e as p)
      session.uploadfolder = "C:\Customers\pixelstudios\a5webroot\images\\"+convert_type(e.session.CustomerID,"C")
      end function
      Does this have to be rewritten to work as an normal session variable? session.CustomerID is set onLogin of the TabbedUI. That's where I'd put this also.

        Session variables don't work differently in a tabbed ui do they?

        In the onLogin server side event, if you put...

        session.uploadpath = "images\" + convert_type(your customer id, "C")

        And then put session.uploadpath into your Upload folder property of the Image upload, that should do it... shouldn't it?

          Re: session variable in Upload Folder path

          You would think. I have tried every possible variation of this and it only will return a numeric value, or something that started out as numeric.

          session.uploadpath = convert_type(session.customerID, "C") works fine.
          session.uploadpath = "images\" + convert_type(your customer id, "C") does not. It colors the " after C red until you eliminate the \ in "images\".
          And even the basic
          session.uploadpath = "images" does not work.

          It seems like something is setting everything to numeric values. I tested the session variable by creating a textbox on a component inside the TabbedUI and setting the default value to session.uploadpath. It was easier than constantly uploading images to see if it worked. If it wasn't working, it either ignored it and used the last good session variable, or returned a 0.

          Does any of this make sense? :)

            It seems that the \ character is causing problems.

            session.uploadpath = "images" definitely works. You may need to re-log in or restart your server to see the change.

            session.uploadpath = convert_type(session.customerID, "C") works because, like the line above, it resolves to a simple express.

            I've tried escaping the \, encoding it, but it's not getting through.

            I have another idea. Does, or can, your UX component have the CustomerID available?

              Well, now I feel stupid. :) I restarted the server and every case above now works.

              Interesting though.

              This works.
              session.duh = "testingthis\\"+"test"
              returns testingthis\test

              But this does not.
              session.duh = "testingthis\\"

              But this does work
              session.duh = "testingthis"

              I guess the rules state in the upload path that you don't use the trailing slash. Which would make sense in these examples.

              Now my earlier example used a double slash "\\", but it also works with a single slash. Both ways return the proper path. You can also specify an absolute path on the server. These are all specified in the onLogin event on the TabbedUI.

              So, when in doubt, use the Microsoft tech support solution. "Did you restart your computer?". :)

                Now I've finished it. These all work.

                session.CustomerEmail = a5ws_getcurrentuser()
                session.CustomerID=sql_lookup("::name::Alphaserver SQL","RegisteredUsers","UserName=:Username","REGISTEREDUSERS_ID",args)
                session.thumbsuploadfolder = "C:\Customers\pixelstudios\a5webroot\images\\"+convert_type(session.CustomerID,"C")+"\thumbs"
                session.uploadfolder = "C:\Customers\pixelstudios\a5webroot\images\\"+convert_type(session.CustomerID,"C")

                It sets the session.CustomerID and then the subsequent ones set the upload path and the thumbnail upload path using the session.CustomerID.

                Yay! (happy dance)

                  Re: session variable in Upload Folder path

                  This was a huge help... for a minute. The above strategy is working beautifully insofar as the thumbnails go. Interestingly, it is not working for creating a folder for the fullsize images. No matter what variation I have tried over the past several hours, it consistently creates a new folder in the webroot folder named "session.fullsize" when it runs the below. Any idea why it would work for the thumbs but not for the other? They are set up identically!

                  function setUploadPath as c (e as p)
                  dim vClient as c = ""
                  vClient = convert_type(e._currentRowDataNew.clientid,"C")
                  session.fullpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\" + vClient + "\fullsize"
                  session.thumbpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\" + vClient + "\thumbs"
                  end function

                    Re: session variable in Upload Folder path

                    I'd need a sample component to test... but try this...

                    Code:
                    session.fullpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\\" + vClient + "\fullsize"
                    session.thumbpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\\" + vClient + "\thumbs"
                    maybe this...

                    Code:
                    session.fullpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\\" + vClient + "\\fullsize"
                    session.thumbpath = "C:\A5webroot\Public\Images\Parking\\" + vClient + "\\thumbs"

                        You're already in the A5Webroot... folder... so try a relative path...

                        session.fullpath = "Public\Images\Parking\" + vClient + "\fullsize"

                        Can you post a simple test UX I can work with?

                          I tried the relative path. I am not sure how to get you a sample UX other than zipping it into a Dropbox. Here's a link:

                          https://www.dropbox.com/s/4973h1hsoa...onVar.zip?dl=0

                          This tool has 9 image uploaders on it...each sending a fullsize version and a thumbnail version. For testing I was only testing and changing the image storage path settings on the first image upload button (TAG WINDOW)

                            What's your database? MySQL, SQLServer? Could you post your Clients and Images_Parking table? Just a couple of records each.

                              I am using MySQL

                              I added creation scripts for these tables in the following Dropbox folder.
                              https://www.dropbox.com/sh/czsx00n4j...pmbDCf-ba?dl=0

                              I cannot help but think this is a bug in Alpha... why would it recognize the session variable in the thumbnail image upload parameters but not in the fullsize parameters in the builder? Gotta be a bug.
