Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

IE 8 Bug introduced in AA version 1607-4169 and later

There is serious issue for applications that need to support Windows XP/IE 8 users that was introduced in Alpha Anywhere Server version 1607-4169 and is still in the current production version. I have a production app that has worked perfectly for two years and after updating I started getting calls that users of Windows XP running IE 8 were no longer able to search in a grid that I defined and they received the message Errors in Page at the bottom of their browsers. I was able to confirm this on my XP test system. I reverted the server to version 1605-4168 and everything is good again. I've reported this to Selwyn as a bug report. Just a heads up for anyone updating their production servers and needing to support older browsers and operating systems.

Although IE 8 has many problems, we have not had any reports of similar problems from any user. We would need a working example that shows the problem to be able to evaluate the issue.

Selwyn found the issue with a Javascript object property named FUNCTION in the Javascript library that while legal in Javascript caused problems with IE 8. It should be corrected in the next release. You've got to love a company that responds so quickly to the developers that use their product! Thanks Selwyn

A bit after the fact, but I just tried 1617_4170 and confirmed it completely hoses the application if running XP and IE8.
Glad to hear it will be fixed.

Re: IE 8 Bug introduced in AA version 1607-4169 and later

I'm having some trouble with the AppLauncher and Internet Explorer. 70% of the computers do no6 forward to the correct page it just stops on the applauncher page. It works fine in FireFox and Chrome but not in IE. I use to be able to just refresh the page now with the latest update I'm not able to do that anymore. 1617_4170. I have had Alpha look at the problem and they couldn't reproduce the problem. So sort of stuck.

If I go back other fixes won't be fixed.

Does anyone know if today's release Build 1620-4172 21 Aug 2013 fixes the problem? It's not mentioned in the release notes.

Re: IE 8 Bug introduced in AA version 1607-4169 and later

There still appears to be an issue with 1620-4172 when opening a UX component as a detail view from a grid. The grids work now again in IE 8 and you can open a grid detail view after searching so part of the issue has been resolved as long as you're not calling a UX dialog from the grid. This only effects IE 8 on XP. Chrome and Firefox on XP work perfectly as they have all along and IE 9 and later on Windows 7/8 are also fine.

Jerry found the bug related to UX components and says it will be included in the next pre-release. In the meantime I'd recommend moving Windows XP users away from IE 8 and on to more modern browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

I'm happy to confirm that in the latest pre-release 1622-4172 that IE 8 under Windows XP once again works perfectly. Thanks to Selwyn and Jerry for finding and fixing these issues so quickly!
