Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing from android

I am trying to print to a Bluetooth printer from an android device.
I found a website with something called "magic script"
The problem I don't have much experience in JavaScript
    Any idea?

    Re: Printing from android

What are you asking here ? You point to some website not related to programming & "something" called "magic script" So what ?

Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand

      Re: Printing from android

Maybe I was not clear enough.
I made a mobile application in alpha anywhere.
It will be used on android devices. I need to print from it to a Bluetooth receipt printer.
      How this can be done?
While doing a research on that, I found something called "magic script" they claim they have some kind of API that allows printing from an HTML5 web page. Don't know how to integrate this 3rd party with alpha.
The main question is how to print from alpha anywhere using android devices to a Bluetooth printer

        Re: Printing from android

        Hey Paul,

Do you need to print plain text for formated text? The only reason I ask is because it looks like printing plain text is fairly straight forward with their javascript code. But printing formated text it looks like they require you to use their formatting format... {b}Bold{/b} for bolding text etc. I feel like I'm back in Wordperfect :)

Anyway... if that's ok with you... it looks like you would need to format the text you want to send out to the printer. You could, most likely, have a "template" stored in a table field and then fill in "merge" fields with data... but again, you'd have to build up the template yourself. Not a big deal, just work and testing.

They most likely have a javascript library that you include in your Alpha app and then call its functions for printing, connecting etc.

          Re: Printing from android

David thank you for your answer an help.
The main issue is how to make alpha detect the Bluetooth devices on the phone.
Since when the script is search for devices it looks to me that it is not search the local device it is search the "server devices" so no printers are found.
I need to find a way to access the local Bluetooth paired devices.
With my little knowledge in the area either Alpha has to make available in their libraries (like the camera ) or I need phonegap...
to be honest I have no idea about phonegap but I know there is a video that shows how use a scanner with phonegap and alpha..
it seems I still have a long way to go...

            Re: Printing from android

There are a couple of Alpha/PhoneGap videos. Bob Moore has one here where he's calling the barcode scanner from an index.html page

and I put together one here where you can call the barcode scanner from a UX component.
