Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Application Server stays around 25% on CPU

I find that with V 12, the cpu stays around 25% most of the time. It does go higher but never back down to 0 like V 11. Also end users are saying it is much slower since I upgraded to V 12. Anyone else having these issues?

Must be something in your application that ties up the cpu. Install a 30 minute democopy on a (virtual) machine on your network (not connected to the internet) & test your app while you monitor the cpu to find out what page causes the cpu to spike then debug the components on that page.

Thanks Frank but I have not changed the application. This just started when I switched to version 12. The cpu just will not go back down from 25%. Before it would jump up to 25% and then after the client logged in, it would drop to 0%

Re: Application Server stays around 25% on CPU

Are you saying that when the v11 appserver was idle e.g. no user using/browsing the app it spiked to 25% cpu usage & when a user logged in it dropped to 0% ? And now with v12 it just remains at 25% all the time ?

If so then even your v11 app must have an issue. Also note that the 25% is probably a full core cpu usage, what are you seeing in the graphs in task manager: 1 core at 100% (I think so).

I would try & debug as suggested in my previous email. 25% (or 100% for 1 core) is just not normal at all. Also edit & resave all your components in v12 & then republish to a clean webroot.

No, on V 11 when it was idle the cpu was at 0%. When someone logged in it may have gone to 25% but quickly dropped back down. With v 12, it stays around 25% all of the time. That really slows down my clients access.

What happens if your webroot is empty ? (stop the appserver, rename the webroot & recreate an empty one then start the server)

              Reed,

I'm not seeing that kind of behavior here. When Idle CPU drops to zero. I am on the latest pre-release build...

Re: Application Server stays around 25% on CPU

I have V11 and V12 running on the same VM using 2008 x86 as the client OS. Both versions are at 0% CPU when idle. When access to a page occurs, both go to 25% then right back to zero. When accessing the SQL DB you see the SQL Server go to about 6% then back to 0%. I assume your server is a quad core and that is where the 25% comes from.

I would uninstall and re install V12. #1, it can't hurt, and might fix the problem. If the code is exactly the same on V11 and V12, there might be an incompatibility in V12 that was not present in V11.

Thanks everyone. I tired all of your suggestions but I'm still having the same issue. I may try the new list feature in ux so I do not have to show a grid.

Turn on all of the logs* (logging tab in server config). Restart web server, obserce CPU, check the logs for activity while "idle."

*or at least the first two to start with.

Thanks Steve, if I do that it also grinds my server to a halt and fills my hard drive. We have a very busy site and this just started happening with V12. At least the SSL problems are gone now.

Re: Application Server stays around 25% on CPU

If you cannot turn on the logs then you cannot start to debug the issue. If everyone else says their V12 runs at 0% CPU when idle, and your system runs consistent at 25%, then your system is very likely never idle. I am sure there is some time during day or night where you can turn on the logs to observe the condition when the server should be minimally used. If you just turn on the first two logs, it does not take up that much space. The Thread Transition log is the only one that writes high volume to disk.
