Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Use Phone Number?

    Hi Guys,

    Is there a method to use the phone number from a record that is being displayed, to make a call?

    Keith,

    You app will need to be wrapped into Phonegap for that so that it can access the phone's hardware

          Keith,

          If you use google on your mobile to look up some company then they may show stuff from places & then there's 3 links: call, directkions & website. So it is possible without wrapping.

          quickly googled around and found <a href="tel:+15555555555">1-555-555-5555</a> is what you need, don't know about different browser support though.

            There is a difference in mobile: native or not native.

              I had the same problem. I used the on click event with the following code:

              Code:
              var pno = {dialog.Object}.getValue('HOMEPHONE');

              if (A5.flags.supportsTouch !=false) {
              	window.location = 'tel:'+pno;
              } else {
              	alert('Not running on a mobile phone device.');
              }
              I then formatted my field to be highlighted and underlined.

                  Re: Use Phone Number?

                  I have used this code on a button for quite some time in a grid component that is in a Tabbedui.
                  I decided to put the component on it's own page and instead of inserting a button in the Tabbedui to call the component, I now use a button in the tabbedui to call the page that has the component on it.
                  Now, the button action kills the page on a mobile device instead of calling the phone number, can anyone give me an idea why this has stopped working?

                  The only difference is that the component is now on an a5w and called from a button in a tabbedui, whereas before the component was simply called by itself into the tabbedui pane.

                      Re: Use Phone Number?

                      Just to clarify. I have a tabbedUI. To call a component, I used a tabbed UI button to call the component, in that component I have a button with some inline javascript.

                      Code:
                      var cfpl = {grid.Object}.getValue('D','CALLED_FROM');

                      if (A5.flags.supportsTouch !=false) {
                      	window.location = 'tel:'+cfpl;
                      	}else {
                      			alert('Not on a mobile device.');
                      			}
                      Everything has been working fine. I decided to put the component on an A5W page of it's own and in the tabbed UI I used a tabbedUI button to insert the A5W page that has the component in it. Now, when I click the same button on my mobile device, the page crashes (this is on an android device). If I use my desktop, I do get the error alert.

                      What do you guys think is the show stopper here? Is it window.location? seems like that is lost once the component is set in an a5w page to me but I do not know what would be appropriate

                        I have a list control that works fine, this is a different issue, thanks for the video though!

                        *Further testing has revealed that this is an error that only appears in Chrome on android, Safari in Android still works as expected.

                          Anybody have this same error in Chrome or is it just me? It is repeatable for me on several different android devices using Chrome
