List Control - Message to display when 0 records are returned

How are you guys handling this? The grid makes it easy. If anyone has the code already written and is willing to share I'd appreciate it.

On the Data Source tab of your List control there is a Property named "Server side afterQuery event". This e object contains, among other items, e.recordsInQuery, which you can test and then send back some Javascript to execute depending on the count. However, here's the interesting bit... this will work ok if your List does not have a Parent. But, if your List is a child... it's going to fire when your Parent fires. Even if you have "Delay render until visible" checked, your Child list will still fire before you get close to it... and therefore the afterQuery event will fire too.

So... in the case of Parent/Child Lists, in the afterQueryevent event, set a variable in dialog namespace... something like...

if e.recordsInQuery = 0 then
     e.javascript = "{dialog.Object}.__myListRecCount=0;"
end if

Then, since you'd normally click on an item in the Parent List to get to the Child List, you could put into the click event something like...

if ({dialog.Object}.__myListRecCount == 0)
{
     alert('no records... I'm not going on to the Child list');
{
else
{
     // your code to go onto the child list
}

When I list events, I only see client side events and don't see an event anywhere named "Server side afterQuery event"

You didn't specify which Data Source Type you're using, but for SQL, on the Data Source tab of the List Control List Builder, under "Primiary Key" there is the Server side afterQuery event.
