Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browser Errors

    Hello I have few problems with browsers not displaying or redering my Components properly.

    In the latest version Explorer 10 it seems to work okay (most of the time), but in other version I have a constant issue with UX component not opening with data, and lookup fields not responding.

    In all instances I have a Web error on the page.

    E.g. Line: 1237
    Error: 'sty' is undefined:

    if I debug the page it seems to have an error with Java Script that is created when UX is used as a popup from a grid button.

    the debug states

    SCRIPT5009: 'sty' is undefined
    a5.js, line 1237 character 63

    Does anyone know why this may be happeinig or how to get around this java error?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Browser Errors.

    Ricky, I am not aware at all of what you are doing, but have had problems caused by timing issues. The code should work and maybe sometimes does but not always, so sometimes adding a small delay on certain events will help. So examine your javascript events and for example instead of:

    doSomething();
    have

    setTimout( function () {
    doSomething();
    },100);
    Timing is everything! Hope this helps.

          Re: Browser Errors

          It makes me think as if it was intended to put 'style' as a variable name. Use Firebug and find out in what js file this happens. Or create a super simple mini project that shows the problem; either you found a bug (then use the project to send a bug report) or you'll discover that you made some error. What version are you using ? You may first want to try the latest prerelease.

            Re: Browser Errors

            Hello thank you for the reply,

            I don t htink I can show the error in firebug, as the issue seems to only be with Internet Explorer.

            E.g. The web pages work okay in OPRA, CHROME, etc. But When I use Explorer, my Grids display propoerly, but when I open a dialog from the grid via a push button the Dialog is empty (no Records)

            Also on the dialog the lookup fields i use on the grid no longer work, and the submit and reset button are not displayed properly.

            The only thing that I can identify as a error is happening - is at the bottom of the explorer page ther is a little Icon that appears, when I double click it states there is "web errors",

            (This icon only displays after clicking the button to open dialog) . Cnat work it out. I have other buttons on the grid, to open PDF report they work okay.

            It really frustrating I have searched the web and forum but cant find an answer. Like I said if I use a different brower then all is okay. This as far as I am conserned is not satistfactory,,,because the majority of my users will be using explorer.

            I was hoping someone would be able to set me straight and idnetify if I have inadvertantly done something wrong.

            Still developing using alternate browser, for testing as Explorer problem continues.

              Re: Browser Errors

              In IE press F12 and you'll get a Firebug alike window to help debug the situation. IE is always a pain and probably will continue to be a pain. You have to tell your customers what versions of IE you support; don't get trapped into supporting IE, be more specific: IE9, IE10 (also do not state IE9 or higher because MS is impredictible)

                Re: Browser Errors

                Hello Frank, thanks for responding to my post, Pressing F12 and reviewing the debug window. I get this:

                e.g.

                line 1327 : if(ss.insertRule)ss.insertRule(sel+'{'+css+'}',r.length);else ss.addRule(sel,sty);},deleteSelector:function(sel){var ssEle=$('A5STYLESHEET')

                Error: 'sty' is undefined:

                I have no idea what it is? or doing? All I know is that 'sty' is causing me big issue with dialogs..

                Where does this code come from, its not soemething that I entered so must be part of the dialog compeopnent? I think???

                Any suggestions???

                  Re: Browser Errors

                  Ricky,

                  That is Alpha Anywhere javascript code probably from the virtual libraries (those libraries are generated on the fly, you don't see them in your webroot folder). It may be a bug, difficult to tell. It seems related to the style being used; have you tried another style? What release of Alpha Anywhere are you using ?
                  You may want to try the latest pre-release that you can find here: http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/A...easenotes.html

                  If the problem persists then create a new workspace with a simple component that demonstrates the problem & send that along with a detailed description to [email protected]
