Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Developers Monitor Resolution - how many pixels can A5 go? - Is it possible for A5 windows to go outside of A5?

While I do develop application in A5 I find it cumbersome to develop applications with web components
because the component windows seem to only be available inside the running A5 program.

    1) Is it possible to open the components and have them outside of the A5 program thus allowing multiple monitor use?
(For example the help can run outside of the A5 program.)
If so how can this done?

    2) Is it possible to set the component size / text size to be smaller so more info can be seen when the component is opened?

    3) Does anyone have any experience using the new high resolution monitors 2560 x 1600+ pixels and how is it working for them when developing with A5?

IF this has been discussed before I was not able to find the post please direct me to it and I will read up on what has been said.

    Thank you.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I am curious as to the screen resolution that my fellow developers are using and do you feel it is adequate?

The component builders are MDI windows so you cannot move them 'outside' of the Alpha Anywhere window. The documentation viewer however does offer the possibility to select between MDI & modeless

I develop on a 23" screen 1920x1080 and I am pretty satisfied, although 2560x1600 sounds very appealing. I see no reason why Alpha would not support it.

I don't see any option to change the font size for web projects, never felt the need either

I do believe it would be supported. I was wondering about other developers experiences with higher resolution monitors.

          UPDATE:
So I bought one of those super high resolution monitors and i could not be any happier.
          This is what I bought.

          Seiki Digital SE39UY04 39-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz LED
          http://www.amazon.com/Seiki-Digital-...keywords=seiki

The cost was not in the $3k or $4K range for other similar monitors with less resolution, but a very reasonable $699.00

          The resolution is 3840x2160.
The quality is excellent and no stuck pixels which can happen to some of these larger inexpensive monitors.
This is the only monitor I have found at this price point for this resolution.

It really works great with Alpha5 programming environment.
I now have a whole lot of room to program and see a lot of code of multiple modules that may be opened at the same time.
Anyone who spends a lot of time programming will love this monitor.
You cannot beat the price for the resolution.

          Some things to note:
          1) This monitor only has a HDMI 1.4v interface. Make sure your computer graphics output is HDMI 1.4v or higher or you wont get the highest resolution.

          2) If your computer has a displayport 1.1 or higher you can get an active converter to go from the Displayport 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 This will work like a charm.
I bought the Accell B086B-003B UltraAV DisplayPort 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 Active Adapter - AMD Eyefinity Certified from Amazon for $30.00
          http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

IT MUST BE AN ACTIVE ADAPTER - A PASSIVE ADAPTER WILL NOT WORK!!!

I am currently using my thinkpad t510 with it's displayport converting to the HDMI 1.4 going into the monitor. Works great.

          3) Since there are so many pixels you should have a mouse with a high resolution setting to make mouse movements smooth on the screen.

          4) For those of you who may be curious and use windows remote desktop.

I prefer to do my programming directly on my WAS production machine at this time.

It is a low risk thing for me given the application I am working on.

For those of you who may do the same and may not know this:
that what ever resolution the local computer is set at,
the remote computer will work at that resolution as well through Remote Desktop.

Since my local computer is now 3840x2160 that is what my remote desktop works at.

The screen remote desktop works very well and very fast. no lag time.
I do use high speed internet service at both ends.

I do run my own server which is a basic intel 2 core 2Ghz machine with an SSD drive and it rocks for being what it is.
I will be upgrading it to a Lenovo Laptop W510 i7 1.6ghz 720QM (true quad core) with a new SSD drive, perhaps samsung..
The new enterprise SSD's are quite expensive.
Should serve up the WAS a whole lot faster.
And yes the server does get backed up twice a day on 2 different backup units, in case you were worried... lol

This new version of A5V12 WAS runs much faster then my A5V10.5 WAS on the same server.

Hope this information is helpful to those who have been wondering.
