Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Help with Mailing Labels in Web App

    Hello everyone!

I am having some difficulty in generating labels within my web app. I easily created a new label using the genie and my sql datasource. I set up the label using the Avery 5160 predefined label, set my fields and bingo, all previews well.

I then added the new label component to my tabbed interface and setup my security settings. Uploaded everything to my local development server and then encountered the problem. Here is a screen shot of the error that is being displayed:

    Error.png

This error has stumped me as I am using a SQL backend. What is the .DBF file that it is looking for and why?

    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

    BUMP!

Anyone else experiencing this problem? Just to add, I am trying to use this with a web app. It does seem to work with the desktop but I am getting a security error if I try to incorporate it into the web app.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mike

What is the path to your dbf tables on the server? DBF's are alpha's database tables. They must be getting used within your app

        hello

look for path alias. that should be setup correct in order for the report to be located.

Thanks for the responses. I am not using DBF's at all in the app. It is strictly SQL Server. Are you required to use DBF's to create labels?

That is my assumption. Haven't used that feature of alpha. Go to your control panel and see if the genie created any dbf's? You'll need to configure the path alias and then you'll need to publish the tables to the web server

Re: Help with Mailing Labels in Web App

when you create reports they are in the reports tab in the control panel, you are not creating any dbf, the definition for the report is in different location.

Re: Help with Mailing Labels in Web App

                Gandhi,

Thanks for the information. I have successfully created reports for my web apps through the Web Projects Control Panel without the use of DBF's. However, when I create labels using the same methods, the previews work fine but they do not work from the server.

Having to use DBF's and a path alias for web based apps seems like a backwards way of doing this. I will keep everyone posted.

                  SUCCESS!

The path alias seemed to do the trick. I had to create the labels from the (Desktop) Control Panel, not the Web Projects Control Panel.

Thanks everyone! This now completes my second app!
