Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is Alpha Anywhere stable and scaleable for building a large enterprise application?

Our firm is reviewing Alpha Anywhere as a possible tool to re-develop a large enterprise medical software application. We need the capability to create web and mobile components. Our team currently develops in Java and we are very interested in a rapid application development tool to assist with this major project. The application is large with hundreds of thousands lines of code, requires strong security, a quick response time for all user interfaces and the ability to support up to 2,500 concurrent users.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Alpha Anywhere can meet all your specifications. You'll save a whole lot of development time besides.

History shows this sort of question spawns a lot of different answers, so I don't disagree with Steve, but I think his answer requires a bit of clarification. The traffic you're looking to handle can be handled but only with some number of instances and load balancing. Maximum concurrent users per instance as I've read on this forum range from 25 to 200 or so. If there are higher estimates per instance, I don't think I've seen them. A recent forum post by the Alpha CEO suggested 200 users. Even being conservative, that's a long way from 2500. Again, it can be done, just not one instance out of the box. I mean to clarify, not to dissuade. I love Alpha Five and it's amazing what I've been able to do, quickly, with it.

Yes absolutely. I use Alpha Anywhere for large real world business sites and it can pretty much scale as much as you need. That being said, as noted you will need to install a load balancer architecture with multiple Alpha Anywhere servers below and all of them connected to a database below that. But no matter what technology you use that would be necessary for a large business application.

        Cheers,

When it comes to such a number of concurrent users> 2500 then the best solution contact with Richard Rabin email [email protected].
Alpha Software has experience with this question also for references for this type of project and a POC is definitely needed in my opinion.

It's possible technically - but in real terms, any large enterprise solution will depend on the skill and ability of the developers in both AA and SQL design, there is a lot of skill involved here, expert AA knowledge. We have just completed a massive medical project, the rapid development can bring you undone if you don't begin with the end in mind in a detailed specification that provides the knowledge you need of what can and can't be done within the scope of the products being used, simple things like how you would go about developing as a team of developers can be challenging in itself using any product. So scope it then decide.
