The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.
Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.
Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.
Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

- Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
- Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.

If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
- Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
- Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
- Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
- Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.

Re: Version 1749_4210
I agree with all of the above. There are many reasons this is an all around bad idea not only for us, but also for our customers. Heavan forbid if any of our current customers or potential new customers learn that our software has a built-in time bomb. It would certainly scare me away as a prospective customer of my products just like it is scaring me away from Alpha.

Re: Version 1749_4210
Is anyone having problems with file upload? Since the update was installed the script is working and uploading a file to the directory, however, it is no longer showing confirmation in the upload dialog box nor is it recording the file information to the row. Therefore, it appears that the process hangs (even though it uploaded to the directory). No other changes but upgrade of Alpha. I have even rebuilt the component from scratch and the same issue is occurring. Doesn't matter which file I try nor the size same problem.
I have also ran the suggested bulk operations to with no errors, but to no avail.
Have filed a bug report just in case. This is a serious problem if it affects other deployed applications.

Re: Version 1749_4210
Some clarifications on the current update
Previous builds will stop working after Nov 1. This is because of an issue with the licensing system. We intend to have another update tomorrow that will have a fix that removes the stop dates and not require any further updates at any time in the future unless an update is desired.
The update tomorrow is required for all Alpha Anywhere versions, including runtime and the application server regardless of the licensing model.
The problem with the file upload has already been found and fixed, along with other issues reported. If you are already running build 1749 and find any problems please report them as soon as possible as we would like to get any fixes in tomorrows build if possible.

Re: Version 1749_4210
I would just like to thank Alpha for this momentous upgrade that I downloaded over the weekend.
This morning I spotted a couple of minor glitches, but managed to work around them with the help of Toad. I had a 5 pm deadline to send some applications for payment for a series of our current contracts. These usually take me no more than an hour to complete. After several other duties, I started them at 3pm only to find this particular UX would not work at all, after an hour of trying several things nothing. I turned to the forum and read Jerry's post. Bulk update on 66 grids and 146 UX components is not a quick operation, followed by republishing same!!!
Outcome - no applications made it in time! I will have to wait until this time next month to submit them and another month after that to get paid!!!!
Why has this obviously volatile update been released with only a few days before everything could potentially crash?
PS my UX works now, thanks Jerry!

Re: Version 1749_4210
I received a VERY reassuring note from Alpha this morning in response to my concerns.
To paraphrase it sounds like this was a one-time anomaly based on some old code that was just recently re-discovered and that future updates will not include any kind of expiration code. There should be a patch tomorrow that removes the January 14th update requirement so we can all breathe much easier!
I really appreciate the promptness of Alpha's support team and I love working with their product so this news is extremely welcome!
Actually, I just read Jerry's response above so it sounds like I'm a day late and a dollar short with the good news but it is good news just the same.Brad Weaver, President

FAQ
Why is this update mandatory?
This update is mandatory due to a limitation with our old activation server system, which we have recently upgraded.
Do you anticipate more mandatory updates in the future?
No! This is a one-time event.
Can I update after Friday?
Yes. But keep in mind if you try to start or restart the software on or after Friday it will not start until you update.
What happens if I don't update?
If you don't update, starting Friday you will be unable to start or restart the software until you do update.
Are there other benefits to updating?
Yes. In addition to correcting the activation server issue, we have added many new features and have improved the stability of the Application Server especially as it handles SSL requests. For details, see the release notes.
If I encounter technical issues after updating, what should I do?
Please submit any bugs or issues you encounter to [email protected]. Please include step-by-step instructions for how to reproduce the issue, and include any files we may need. We will respond promptly.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We will not require you do this again in the future.
Sincerely,
The Alpha Software TeamRichard Rabins
